Position: Director of Maintenance & Facilities

Department: Support Services

Primary Purpose

Direct and manage the maintenance and custodial operations of the district. Maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use may be made at all times. Provide students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive and functional.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or relevant, successful work experience in facilities/maintenance management
  • Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Experience

5 years of supervisory experience in maintenance and construction project management in a K-12 setting preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of school plant maintenance and custodial operations
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design and installation
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to conduct on-site inspections of all district facilities
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities And Duties

Building Maintenance and Repair

  • Ensure district facilities are functional, safe, clean, and well maintained.
  • Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all district buildings and equipment. Ensure work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure programs are cost-effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for the maintenance, repair, and operation of all buildings and equipment in the district.
  • Manage and maintain the district warehouse.
  • Prepare plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement for submission to purchasing department for bids.

Facilities

  • Inspect existing facilities and make recommendations for improvements as needed and establish and recommend priorities for repair projects.
  • Track warranty expiration dates and make final warranty check prior to end of warranty periods. Oversee warranty correction work.
  • Develop resolutions to complex technical problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Consult faculty, administrative staff, and community to determine program-driven design needs.

Policy, Reports, and Law

  • Complete periodic reports of department progress and make presentations to the board.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including coordinating the storage and handling of maintenance and facilities documents.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for all district staff.
  • Actively participate in professional in professional organizations pertaining to the position. Additionally, provide professional growth for your department.

Budget and Inventory

  • Review and authorize requests for payment from contractor(s) and designer(s).
  • Ensure programs are cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.

Safety

  • Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of skilled craftsmen, lead custodians, grounds supervisors, and support staff assigned to maintenance department.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; small hand tools; ladder; mechanical and electrical testing equipment; small truck or van

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds)

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work alone; may work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress

The District contributes $400/month to the cost of employee only health insurance, which is $175/month greater than the state required amount of $225/month

Assignment: 12 Duty Months

Salary

Minimum $96,691

Midpoint $116,493

Maximum $136,295
