  • Regularly attracting $200,000+ in individual contributions, including major gifts each year
  • Attracting over 500 attendees to an annual event that raises over $200,000 each year with its inaugural 2024 gala event raising over $500,000
  • Raising approx. $450,000 in annual revenue from private foundation grants
  • Receiving numerous multi-year state and federal public grants with budgets totaling over $4 million annually
  • Securing over $7.5 million towards a $12 million capital campaign goal

The Opportunity/Position Description: Director of Philanthropy and Marketing

Role

The Director of Philanthropy and Marketing reports directly to the CEO. The role will lead all initiatives related to Meta House’s philanthropic initiatives, private and public grant revenue, and marketing/communication efforts. Private philanthropy efforts will include:

  • Support from corporations, foundations, and individuals
  • Capital and other special campaigns
  • Planned giving and endowment strategies, and
  • Special events and sponsorships.

Public grant revenue oversight includes maximizing federal, state, and local funding opportunities. Directing marketing and communications for the agency requires a cohesive strategy and efficient execution. Ultimately, this position is responsible for generating strong, sustainable revenue streams for the organization from private and public sources.

Major Objectives Shorter Term Priorities

Within the first 12 to 18 months, the Philanthropy and Public Grants Director will achieve the following major objectives:

  • Establish strong, collaborative, and trusting relationships with the agency’s President & CEO, Executive Management Team, Board of Directors, and the existing Development team members
  • Design and build a high-performing team able to develop an increasingly larger and diverse donor base and grant revenues by clarifying departmental roles and establishing KPIs with data-driven metrics
  • Develop accurate and efficient systems to track and comply with all application and reporting obligations for existing private and public grant opportunities while identifying new opportunities to pursue.
  • Establish branding guidelines for the agency for all internal and external-facing communications and materials
  • Assist with the completion of a $12 million capital campaign to support an expansion and relocation project

Ongoing Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Expand grant programs (both private and public) to capitalize on a wider range of funding opportunities
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with leaders throughout the agency and ensure that teams collaborate and communicate in a manner that continuously integrates fundraising and revenue concepts throughout the agency
  • Assess donor stewardship practices and elevate the importance of strengthening donors’ interests in, satisfaction with, and engagement with the agency as may be appropriate
  • Provide significant support to the agency’s Board of Directors in fund-development activities and serve as liaison to relevant Board committees
  • Support the CEO (and other Executive leaders as may be appropriate) in fund-development efforts by serving as a co-strategist and partner in cultivating and soliciting public and private funds and providing leadership with timely and accurate financial information related to the same
  • Responsible for monitoring budgets and financial draws from grant funding sources; review expense coding and monitor labor allocations to ensure proper utilization of grant funds; prepare and submit budgets for new and continuing applications
  • Personally manage a portfolio of individuals and institutions with major gift-giving capacity to ensure that timely steps are taken toward solicitation and maintaining continued engagement
  • Plan, develop, and implement a long-term strategy for marketing, communications, and/or public relations (including traditional and social media) that aligns with the agency’s values and strategic plan, fundraising and donor engagement efforts, and other agency objectives
  • Oversee all marketing efforts, media/public relations, communication materials, sponsorship, cause marketing/promotional activities, capital campaigns, and events/exhibits; this includes responding to media inquiries and issuing press releases when appropriate.
  • Ensure that all activities within the department follow best practices for fundraising (including honoring donor intent), financial recordkeeping and administration, and legal considerations
  • Ultimately responsible for ensuring proper management of donor records, including maximizing donor management software capabilities
  • Oversee annual year-end solicitation and manage significant funding relationship
  • Coordinate with the quality and evaluations team to ensure all reporting is completed promptly and comprehensively.
  • Supervise Development staff and interns and oversee volunteer engagement
  • Assist with any other strategic initiatives in furtherance of fund-development opportunities, including partnership cultivation, external collaboration initiatives, and speaker/presentation opportunities
  • Work with clinical and operational staff to plan and budget for events (fund and friend-raising, recruiting, programmatic outreach, etc.) for the year.
  • Ensure the coordinated strategy of prospect development across giving channels, including annual giving, major gifts, grants, etc., with a particular focus on expanding the agency’s major gifts program and retaining all capital campaign supporters
  • Serve as a competent and beneficial ambassador for the agency

Marginal Functions/Duties

  • Donor and gift database data entry and utilization
  • Internal public relations and coordination with other Meta House staff
  • Other duties that may be periodically or permanently assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required
  • A minimum of three years of senior-level leadership experience managing successful teams, with a track record of high performance developed through teamwork and collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal demeanor with a strong commitment to high ethical standards and professionalism and the ability to establish trust at all levels
  • Public speaking experience with the ability to effectively present to diverse audiences and in a variety of settings
  • Expertise and experience in the field of marketing and communications
  • Grant writing experience required
  • Budget oversight experience required
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to delegate effectively
  • Excellent writing skills with attention to detail and the ability to create concise, creative, and engaging content
  • Knowledge and experience with donor-management software preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and Word required
  • Experience with SharePoint/Teams preferred
  • Demonstrable strategic analysis and creative problem-solving skills required
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and vehicular insurance
  • Ability to travel both locally and out of state occasionally
  • After-hours and weekend availability required

  • Visually identify clients and others
  • Adhere to expectations of a nonsmoking work environment
  • Auto insurance coverage with the following limits:100k per person bodily injury/300k per accident bodily injury limit/100k property damage liability
