Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for an experienced fundraising professional who can secure donations from our loyal supporters to join the Office of Philanthropy as our Director of Philanthropy.

The Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors in the hospital’s community, soliciting donations, and nurturing donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition. For fundraising, this position also develops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shrine Centers and the local community. All candidates must bring a mission-driven and community-minded approach to the role. This position reports to the Senior Director of Philanthropy.

A willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends when necessary is required.

Working with the philanthropy team, supporting the implementation of the Shriners Children’s major giving program through a focus on individuals, corporations, and foundations

  • Planning and executing a successful leadership-giving program to build the number and gifts from donors and corporations with the ability to make gifts of $1,000 or more, manage an appeal schedule and create solicitation mailings and lists, execute event logistics, work with third-party event fundraisers and visiting groups and corporations on behalf of the Chicago Hospital.
  • In collaboration with the philanthropy team, responsible for implementing the operational plans to identify and grow the number of prospective donors for major and annual efforts, sponsorships, and foundation gifts, through contacting funders and corporations for relevant information to solicit gifts, developing solicitation proposals, setting up cultivation events, and personally soliciting gifts.
  • Identifying, cultivating and stewarding leadership giving level and corporate donor relationships through an assigned list of donors. Conducting personal visits and using written communication and cultivation strategies to increase donors' levels of support.
  • Managing assigned donors, tracking progress and results, and running necessary reports using the Blackbaud CRM database. Using the Classy peer-to-peer digital event management platform for donor communication and solicitation in partnership with the central office of philanthropy as appropriate.
  • Providing staff support as assigned for fundraising committees and the Board of Governors.


Experience Required

  • 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience required, including experience with sponsorship events.
  • A track record of successful fundraising or similar accomplishments is essential.
  • Prior experience with Charitable Gift Annuities, bequests, and other planned giving vehicles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)


Experience Preferred

  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM donor database preferred (training will be provided).
  • 1 year of healthcare fundraising experience preferred.
