What are we looking for?

We are looking to add a Director of Programs to our team. As the Director of Programs, this role is crucial in ensuring program compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining high satisfaction levels among clients and stakeholders, fostering program growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability. The Director of Programs will collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to achieve these objectives.

Your Overall Essential Responsibilities Will Be The Following

Program Oversight: Provide strategic leadership and direction for all programs offered by St. John's Community Services in Virginia.

  • Develop a strong, collaborative team of direct support specialists and managers to operate a high quality, multi-dimensional residential, in home, day, employment and behavioral services programs. Ensure routine meetings of each assigned department, managers and the entire staff.
  • Continuously convey the mission, vision and philosophy of the agency through formal and informal communication with all SJCS-VA staff.
  • Interface directly with direct support professionals and managers routinely as they perform their duties to provide direct instruction, coaching and modeling behavior exemplifying the agency’s beliefs.
  • Provide coverage in emergency situations.

Compliance: Ensure programs comply with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that all residences, program locations, and vehicles for which the agency has responsibility are maintained in a safe, secure and esthetically pleasing condition.
  • Ensure compliance with all funding, regulatory and accrediting agency’s quality standards and with SJCS Agency Wide Policies and Procedures, personnel policies and any other relevant policies and practices adopted by the agency including the use of the Therap system for recordkeeping for individuals;
  • Ensure that the SJCS admissions process is adhered to when considering new referrals for service. Ensure that all referrals are considered in a fair and objective team process and documentation of that process is maintained for each person referred.
  • Ensure all individuals served are free from harm at all times. Ensure that all incidences are reported to the required parties in a thorough and timely manner. Conduct follow-up activities, including investigations, in accordance with funding and licensing agency requirements and SJCS policies and procedures.

Staff Supervision and Development: Manage and support program managers and staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

  • Recruit, evaluate, monitor, hire and terminate management staff.
  • Provide supervision to direct report staff, including routine, individualized meetings to enhance communication and program operations.
  • Ensure the initial orientation and subsequent training of all staff working in all VA programs. This includes the documented completion of all orientation activities, SJCS administrative, as well as state, licensure or funding agency required training, and SJCS programmatic training, prior to the initiation of direct work with individuals served, as well as all required refresher training and training deemed necessary by the State Director.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of staff time and attendance including the review and approval of all assigned staff time records.

Service Quality: Monitor and evaluate program performance to ensure high-quality service delivery that meets the needs of clients and stakeholders.

Program Development: Lead initiatives to expand and enhance existing programs, as well as develop new programs to meet emerging needs in the community.

Budget and Resource Management: Oversee program budgets, allocations, and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate positive relationships with clients, families, community partners, and funding agencies to promote program success and sustainability.

Reporting and Evaluation: Prepare regular reports on program outcomes, impact, and compliance for internal stakeholders and external funders.

You will catch our eye if you have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, preferably in the social services or nonprofit sector.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices in program development and management.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams toward achieving organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Extra credit will be given if you have the following experience, education, and requirements:

Demonstrated experience in budget management, strategic planning, and performance evaluation.

  • Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
  • Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.
