Director of Public Markets Manager Research

The Director of Public Markets Manager Research is the leader of the Public Markets Manager Research Team, the group within Meketa that performs due diligence on equity, fixed income, and hedge fund managers. The individual manages the Asset Class Heads, Research Consultants, Research Analysts, and Research Associates who comprise the Public Markets Manager Research Team that work with the firm’s General Consultants and other investment professionals. The Public Markets Team analyzes investment managers, assists in building client portfolios, monitors client investments, and provides investment recommendations to the firm’s clients.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Public Markets Manager Research Team and oversee the investment process.
  • Chair the Marketable Securities Oversight Committee, develop and oversee the investment process of Meketa’s high conviction managers.
  • Develop and implement an annual plan/department goals for the group. Ensure that the Public Markets Team is fully staffed to provide adequate coverage of the relevant asset classes and to respond to the needs of clients and consultants.
  • Work with Meketa’s Emerging and Diverse Manager Committee to execute various initiatives related to emerging and diverse managers.
  • Work with relevant team members to prepare the annual DE&I survey, prepare the summary write-up, and present findings to consultants, clients, and the manager community.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team in drafting RFP responses, providing relevant data, and crafting presentation materials.
  • Participate in meetings (semi-finals/finals/on-sites) for prospective clients, as requested.
  • Assist with relevant team members in building out and maintaining ESG ratings across public market managers/strategies.
  • Mentor, train, and develop the talents of the Public Market Team members.
  • Critique and edit the analyses of the investment analysts.
  • Prepare, review, and edit presentation documents and assist with recommendations to clients.
  • Write, edit, and review client memos on managers as required.
  • Lead client relationships as needed, and attend client meetings as required.
  • Market the manager research services of the firm to prospective clients.
  • Develop goals for the Research Consultants, Analysts, and Associates and track productivity by monitoring selected metrics.
  • Review performance twice a year and write performance appraisals.
  • Write and review investment white papers or other external content as needed.
  • Interact with the media to raise the profile of the firm as needed.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; major/minor in finance, accounting, economics or business preferred.
  • A minimum of ten to fifteen years of experience in manager research.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including facility with financial and statistical concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
  • MBA, MSF, CAIA and/or CFA charter holder is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
