Director of Quality Engineering

The Director of Quality Engineering is primarily responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive quality assurance strategies, ensuring alignment with the team’s initiatives, and driving continuous improvement with the quality engineering team. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and effective communication skills to achieve high-quality standards to support Life.Church’s mission and reach people for Christ.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage a team of quality engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure their professional growth and development.
  • Define team goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with the team objectives.
  • Foster a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the quality engineering team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive quality assurance strategy for the organization, encompassing both manual and automated testing methodologies.
  • Define testing processes, standards, and guidelines to ensure consistent and effective quality assurance practices across projects.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in quality engineering and incorporate them into the QA strategy.
  • Collaborate with product managers, development teams (squads), and other stakeholders to define test strategies, test plans, and test cases for new and existing software features.
  • Oversee the execution of test plans, ensuring thorough coverage of functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
  • Monitor and analyze test results, identify defects and areas of improvement, and drive resolution and mitigation efforts.
  • Drive the adoption and implementation of test automation frameworks, tools, and practices to increase testing tools and technologies based on project requirements and industry standards.
  • Lead initiatives to automate repetitive testing tasks and integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline for continuous integration and delivery.
  • Define and track key quality metrics and KPIs to assess the effectiveness of the quality assurance process and measure product quality.
  • Generate regular reports and dashboards to communicate quality status, trends, and insights to stakeholders, including senior management.

Skills Needed To Succeed

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (8 years) in quality engineering, software testing, or a similar role, with a track record of success in delivering high-quality software products.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of quality engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Appium, JUnit, Cucumber, TestNG, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Certifications such as ISTQB, CSTE, or CSQE are a plus.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize testing processes, streamline workflows, and enhance quality practices.
  • Conduct retrospectives and post-mortems to review project outcomes, identify lessons learned, and implement corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of issues.
  • Utilizes strong critical thinking skills to analyze complex problems, identify underlying issues, and develop effective solutions in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and understanding of developing and guiding others, effective at multi-tasking, time and process management, and follow-up, ensuring teams are doing the same.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make independent decisions, and solve problems with innovation, exercising sound judgment and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Maintain a systematic and organized approach to completing assignments accurately, thoroughly, and timely, with strong administrative skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to clearly explain complicated processes and foster partnerships.
