Director of Racquet Sports

Position Overview:

The Director of Racquet Sports at Atlanta Athletic Club is a strong and passionate leader with a proven record of accomplishment of providing high-level services within a dynamic club environment. The Director of Racquet Sports possesses strong tennis/pickleball program and instruction credentials, and most importantly, the ability to consistently define and achieve goals and objectives. This includes proven and verifiable leadership qualities with the demonstrated ability to direct, coordinate and control all facets of racquet sport program operations with verifiable strengths in inspirational leadership, financial performance, and emotional intelligence.

The Director of Racquet Sports role is responsible for leading, managing and maintaining all aspects of the operation at all times, including racquet sports events, instructional programs, as well as the oversight of court conditions, grounds and buildings that reflects the reputation of the Club.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all tennis and racquet sport related programming, including adult and junior program offerings
  • Stimulate interest and participation in all racquet sport programs by Club members and their families
  • Spread hospitality, happiness, and goodwill among members, guests and team members at the Club
  • Personally hire, train and supervise all racquet sports personnel, including Assistant professionals; and provide, by example and supervision, the highest professional standards of conduct by all tennis personnel
  • Oversee a Junior Development Program to attract players of all ages and skill level
  • Establish and maintain appropriately high standards for maintenance, appearance and quality of tennis facilities
  • Advise the Club on all aspects of the racquet sports program, including the planning, construction and maintenance of all physical facilities
  • Make certain that all program operations are adequately and properly staffed during all hours of operation
  • Attend all staff meetings and Court Sports Committee meetings as requested by the General Manager or Committee Chairman
  • Enforce all rules of conduct and dress as prescribed by the Club
  • The Director will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times in his dealings with Club members, Club members’ families, guests and Club team members
  • Ensure the timely preparation of all materials for the club Newsletter or monthly update of club website
  • Ensure accurate completion of member charges and payment for all program lessons, tournaments and events
  • Maintains accurate records of all lessons and clinics provided by staff for the completion of a bi-weekly payroll and monthly lesson commissions
  • Work with the colleagues in planning and coordinating all instructional programs, lesson plans and new programs
  • Teach lessons, clinics and team practice sessions for members and children
  • Assist members in identifying and joining teams for league play
  • Oversees daily club operations and ensures high levels of sanitation, cleanliness, and safety in all areas of Club operations, and ensures that team members maintain these high standards
  • Monitors team member dress codes and member dress codes and behavior as applicable
  • Conducts training and other meetings with department team members
  • Completes other appropriate assignments made by the General Manager


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent tennis player with full grasp of the game and its etiquette
  • Must demonstrate appropriate analytical skills, attention to detail, organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergencies
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • Strong organization, communication, and problem solving skills
  • Able to build and maintain positive working relationships with members, team members and vendors


Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in running a racquet sports program at a private country club, resort, or similar organization
  • USPTA Elite Professional or PTR Professional certified and Pickleball Certified
  • Substantial private club or hospitality industry experience with management and supervisory experience and progressive professional advancement
  • Management of complex capital projects
  • Experience working with volunteer committees
