About The Role

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to provide client-centered risk management services. As the leader of risk management, this role involves overseeing the workers’ compensation insurance claims process. This position demands a strategic mindset, a comprehensive grasp of claims principles, a demonstrated history of effectively managing claims teams, and a firm dedication to ensuring compliance and minimizing risks. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual and should possess the capability to efficiently oversee and implement the organization of numerous projects within specified timelines and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement claim strategies in alignment with organizational objectives and current market trends.
  • Oversee claims across multiple state jurisdictions, ensuring daily management of the claims function and fostering relationships with third-party vendors.
  • Effectively manage and uphold the performance of workers compensation claims programs, monitoring both financial aspects and overall program integrity.
  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with third-party administrators and program vendors to ensure adherence to agreed-upon contracts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies, recognize adverse risks, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Guide sales submissions and quotation processes, negotiating favorable terms and conditions with workers compensation insurance carriers.
  • Lead and mentor a team of claims managers, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Continuously assess and improve claims processes for enhanced efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement technology solutions to streamline workflow and bolster data analysis capabilities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, establish goals, and deliver ongoing feedback to the risk management team.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, maintaining accuracy and fairness in all organizational processes.
  • Collaborate closely with customer service teams to offer claims support and address client inquiries effectively.
  • Communicate claims decisions clearly and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and evaluate various management reports, emphasizing operational and financial performance.
  • Present key metrics through reports to claims teams, management, and vendor partners for business unit analysis.


This Role is a Good Fit if You

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Accumulate 10+ years of progressive experience in workers' compensation claims, including at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Exhibit extensive knowledge of workers' compensation insurance and adeptness in claims management principles.
  • Demonstrate a track record of driving process improvements and utilizing technology to enhance efficiency in claims management.
  • Showcase strong negotiation and relationship-building skills, particularly with third-party administrators and various stakeholders.
  • Preferably, have experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) environment.
  • Hold certifications such as Associate in Claims-Management (AIC), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
