Director of Safety

Scope and Responsibilities

The Senior/Director, Safety is entrusted with leading our safety initiatives, ensuring adherence to the highest standards across our diverse services. You will be instrumental in developing strategies that reduce incident rates and severity, enhance safety reporting and metrics tracking, and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and other relevant safety standards. Your leadership will drive a culture of safety, ensuring all operations, including our significant fleet and employee base, operate safely and efficiently.

Specific Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive safety programs, including training, audits, and safety- first initiatives tailored to our diverse service offerings.
• Lead all safety reporting and metrics tracking, providing insights and recommendations to continuously improve safety standards and compliance across the company.
• Ensure strict adherence to DOT regulations & company policies and other safety standards, particularly relevant to our extensive vehicle fleet and daily operations that transport our customers.
• Conduct strategic analysis to identify high-risk areas and jurisdictions, prioritizing initiatives to mitigate risks and enhance operational safety.
• Manage a dedicated team of safety professionals, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement in alignment with the company's safety objectives.
• Conducting and supervising periodic safety, occupational health, and environmental audits of field operations and advising all company management teams regarding technical adequacy and compliance with applicable client rules and regulations, federal and state regulations and/or laws, and corporate regulations
• Oversee the application and renewal process for annual state/federal compliance reporting and operating authorities (e.g., CPUC, OHSA, Annual State Filings, ISN)
• Directs and assists in the investigation of serious accidents and support claims programs (workers compensation, motor vehicle, property damage) in partnership with Sr. Director, Risk Management
• Partner and collaborate with all functional leaders (Ops, HR, Finance, Fleet) to develop and Optimize safety and collaborate on decision making
• Serve as senior safety leader, liaison, and point of contact for safety related matters with clients, external stakeholders, and regulatory contacts
• Provide leadership, direction and subject matter expertise for safety and compliance (including driver minimum qualification standards, driver qualification files, DOT drug and alcohol program, transportation safety methods, training courses etc.)
• Develop strategic recommendations based on data-driven analysis and insights to reduce accident frequency rates and severities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) preferred.
• Over 10 years of experience in risk management, particularly in industries related to mobility transportation, construction or business with high driver populations and expansive fleet assets that demonstrated a strong track record of improving safety outcomes.
• Deep knowledge of safety regulations, including DOT standards, and the ability to apply these effectively within a complex, multi-service operational environment.
