Director of Special Programs and Services (2024-2025 SY)

Primary Purpose

To provide visionary leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of special programs and services including special education, administration of Americans with Disabilities section 504, Dyslexia, Bilingual/ESL. Works collaboratively with a multitude of stakeholders to create exemplary, inclusive learning environments where students are members of the school community.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree, required
  • Administrator certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of federal and state special education law and understanding of the individual needs of special needs students; developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program in day to day operations; district curriculum; and legal requirements governing special education, 504,Dyslexia, and Bilingual/ESL services.
  • Skill in organization; public communication; developing broad vision and executing plans; and collaboration with a variety of groups with potentially opposing viewpoints.
  • Ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and respectfully with staff, parents, students and advocacy groups from diverse backgrounds; implement policy and procedures; interpret data; manage budget and staff; and use discretion and exercise sound judgment.
