The Director, People will play a critical role in overseeing all Pressed Juicery HR functions in their region, with an emphasis on compliance, employee relations, investigations, performance management, talent management, and training. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), and other relevant federal, state and local employment laws.

The Director, People will be responsible for driving the human resources strategy across both retail and manufacturing environments. Note: Depending on the location of the person, this role may require frequent travel to Fresno and Dinuba, CA.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all matters related to the ADA and FMLA.
  • Oversee implementation and adherence to safety regulations in retail and manufacturing settings.
  • Conduct compliant workplace investigations.

Employee Relations (full cycle)

  • Tier one support for all employee relations matters.
  • Work Independently: Manage full cycle employee relations autonomously, taking ownership of all processes from intake to resolution.
  • Intake: Handle the initial intake of employee relations issues, documenting concerns and determining the appropriate course of action.
  • Scheduling: Coordinate meetings, interviews, and hearings related to employee relations cases, ensuring all parties are informed and available.
  • Note Taking & Read Backs: Take detailed notes during employee meetings and investigations, ensuring accuracy and clarity. Conduct read backs to confirm understanding and agreement on statements and outcomes.
  • Investigation Summaries & Reports: Conduct thorough investigations into employee issues, compiling findings into detailed investigation summaries and reports. Ensure reports are accurate, timely, and legally compliant.
  • Employee Relations (ER) & ADA Reporting: Maintain and update all relevant employee relations and ADA-related reports. Regularly share updates and findings with senior management and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Confidentiality: Ensure all investigations and employee relations matters are handled with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Compliance: Ensure all employee relations actions and decisions are in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other relevant employment laws and company policies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review employee relations processes and reporting, recommending and implementing improvements where appropriate.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management, fostering positive working relationships.
  • Address employee grievances, conflicts, and issues in a fair and consistent manner.

Talent Management

  • Lead all aspects of performance management, including coaching, feedback, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Lead performance management initiatives, working closely with department heads to review performance evaluations and develop improvement strategies.
  • Partner with hiring managers to define talent needs and provide input on workforce planning.
  • Oversee and manage the termination process, ensuring compliance with legal standards and best practices.

Training and Development

  • Design and deliver training programs for the management team, focusing on leadership development, managerial intelligence, and building strong leadership acumen.
  • Ensure that training programs align with Pressed Juicery’s strategic goals and are tailored to address both individual and organizational needs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and development across all teams.

Retail and Manufacturing Oversight

  • Ensure that safety protocols are implemented and followed across both retail and manufacturing sectors.
  • Work closely with operations leaders in manufacturing to address workforce challenges, enhance employee engagement, and improve productivity.
  • Assist retail leaders with HR matters, focusing on safety and compliance, and employee performance.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in human resources, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role (Director level)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ADA, FMLA, and other employment laws.
  • Experience managing HR in both retail and manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (highly preferred)
  • Experience with complex employee relations matters, including but not limited to, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, wage and hours laws, enhancing leadership acumen and managerial intelligence.
  • Proven experience in employment law, employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to train and develop management teams.
