About The Role

Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, this position is responsible for direction and oversight of accounting operations for multiple plants. The position delivers results that support the objectives of the business through management of financial and operating performance including month-end activities and financial reporting. This position is a hands-on contributor and highly proactive business partner accustomed to successfully partnering with leadership.

The Director, Plant Controller works within the Finance department at the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility at the East Windsor, NJ location two days per week and corporate headquarters in Princeton Junction, NJ one day per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner for site leadership, pro-actively taking responsibility for budgeting, forecasting processes and business decisions.
  • Support plant operations with timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis of results (cost control versus budget, efficiencies & variance reporting, and providing cost forecasts).
  • Maintain strong control and reporting of Capital Expenditures.
  • Lead annual business planning process, forecasts, and actual reporting for the various plant departments.
  • Analyze site financials with strong business acumen and guide leadership to make informed, financially sound decisions.
  • Oversee financial internal controls regarding assets (including inventory) and spend in accordance with SOX.
  • Recommend, implement, and measure performance against benchmarks for financial and operating performance.
  • Lead the month-end closing and financial reporting process, including account analysis and reconciliation.
  • Oversee the consigned inventory reconciliation process for various third-party locations
  • Oversee the cycle count process for the plant locations.
  • Conduct formal monthly review meetings with manufacturing and finance management to discuss plant performance.
  • Meets periodically with the Plant Managers to discuss production and costing issues. Review labor reporting and cost, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution cost, and inventory levels.
  • Implement and ensure organizational compliance with accounting best practices, U.S. GAAP requirements, and company’s policies.
  • Collaborate with site operations personnel on cost price calculations, evaluating inventory and challenging supply chain to maintain proper stock levels, complying with internal control guidelines.
  • Ability to simultaneously lead and manage multiple projects.
  • Supervise multiple finance personnel at the plant level.
  • Lead/Monitor all Cost Controlling activities (Costing, Month-End Close, and Fixed Assets).
  • Provide direct labor productivity reporting and analyzes.
  • Coordinate and oversee Excess & Obsolete Inventory financial reserve and mitigating actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, Economics, Business or equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of plant finance experience.
  • Certification such as CPA or CMA, preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical/Life Science/Biotech industry is preferred.
  • Must have experience with SOX 404.
  • Highly intelligent, entrepreneurial, mature, team-oriented, hard-working, and collaborative, and able to concurrently manage a large number of diverse and often complex issues and/or projects.
  • Must be able to think strategically and operationally and have the mental acuity to analyze situations and know when issues need to be escalated.
  • Demonstrated maturity and judgment to know when to act independently and when to drive consensus. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential as is the ability to lead through influencing and persuasion and to relate well to people in a credible manner.
  • Have good professional ethics, rigorous work style and a high degree of dedication and responsibility, identify with corporate culture, dare to take responsibility, and strong execution.
  • Experience in managing teams and projects.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting.
  • Working knowledge of controlling large CAPEX projects.
  • High computer proficiency; specifically, with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, worksheet functionality and use of graphs and charts and PowerPoint.
  • Experience and knowledge of an ERP system.
