  • Supports the Safety Officer with the Management of the Emergency Management program. Acts as Safety Officer for the Hospital in the absence of the Manager Environment of Care.
  • Develops, implements and analyzes quality improvement activities and outcomes of the department.
  • Manages department budget: manages all departmental resources in line with established budget.
  • Identities and recommends activities to enhance revenues and reduce costs.
  • Maintains and updates a property loss and prevention program in coordination with staff and Risk Management.
  • Establishes key controls on departmental communication equipment and property.
  • Evaluates incidents, investigates patterns of problems to determine course of action and programmatic improvements.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Committee (QIC), Patient Safety Committee, Environment of Care Committee (EOC), and Patient Experience Committee (PE); reports on performance indicators for department.
  • Administers motor vehicle registration and parking/traffic control programs.
  • Resolves employee and patient satisfaction concerns in a timely manner, assuring they have been thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions taken as well as reported as required.
  • Serves as liaison with local law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and county disaster management organizations.
  • Promotes professionalism in appearance, positive attitude, and confidentiality.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Joint Commission standards.
  • Represents AHT in a professional manner to staff, visitors and the community AHT’s mission and core values.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in healthcare accreditation/regulatory surveys, and policy/procedure management related to Emergency Management (EM), Life Safety (LS) & Environment of Care (EOC)
  • Results-oriented self-starter that is highly adaptability with demonstrated leadership, training and coaching skills, that accepts responsibility, exercises authority, and functions independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively via oral and written, in both large and small group setting at different levels of the organization, and with diverse groups, communities and in public settings
  • Ability to effectively work in emotionally charged situations and a demanding, stressful, and fast-paced changing environment.
  • Strong diplomacy, tact, facilitation, persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills combined with business acumen and organizational and interpersonal leadership skills to lead, engage and develop a diverse workforce.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, Local regulations related to healthcare, security, safety, emergency management, including, OSHA, and Baker Act standards of care and service.
  • Knowledge of healthcare, safety and emergency management accreditation and regulatory standards including AHCA and Joint Commission. Ability to read and interpret policies and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability and skills in crisis intervention, de-escalation, investigation and emergency/disaster management.
  • Computer Skills: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and Security & Safety Management applications.
  • Demonstrated fluency to speak, read, and write in English.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

Education And Experience Required

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years safety and security management leadership experience in a in a tertiary or mid-large size academic hospital setting or hospital/acute care setting, including pediatrics.
  • Minimum 10 years security experience in a healthcare setting with an emphasis on de-escalation techniques, risk reduction, use of technology tools and behavior.
  • Minimum 5 years leadership and/or consulting experience in safety and emergency management
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in law enforcement or military policy
  • Experience working with AHCA, Joint Commission related to Environment of Care, Safety Management, and Emergency Management
  • Experience leading and coordinating initiatives with local county Sherriff’s Office. Fire Marshall and other emergency services providers.
  • Adept at managing diverse work teams and client population.

Education And Experience Preferred

  • Master’s Degree, preferably in Criminology and/or Criminal Justice Pref
  • Policy Academy Graduate
  • 5 years’ experience as a private investigator investigation consultant
  • Prior experience as a EMT or Paramedic

Licensure, Certification Or Registration Required

  • Certification in Emergency Management
  • Florida Drivers’ License
  • NIMS Certification in Healthcare or equivalent (100, 200, 700 & 800 for TJC Standards for EOC and Safety)
  • IAHSS Management Certification required within 90 days of hire

Licensure, Certification Or Registration Preferred

  • CPI Crisis Prevention Certification or AVADE certification required within 90 days of hire
  • EMT or Paramedic License
  • LEAN Leadership Certification completed with one (1) year.
