A successful Director of Search Marketing and Shopping must be an effective communicator and possess the ability to both work with and lead a group in a team environment. This role must lead and foster a strong level of integration among all functions within Shutterfly Inc, and all teams across the organization. The role is focused on optimization of direct response SEM and shopping channels efforts to drive new customer acquisition and growth from existing customers. A solid understanding of managing to ROAS and CAC goals is key, with an expectation to drive scalable growth opportunities. The role will coordinate closely with the strategy and brand teams as well as other members of the Performance Marketing Team.


Management

  • Responsible for communicating with management on account and group status in a professional manner befitting a senior level team member
  • Responsible for facilitating each team member's development
  • Manage internal relationships
  • Supervise strategy development, implementation and optimization of all plans
  • Ensure that management, Brand Teams, Merchandising and other teams have a full understanding of the role that SEM and shopping play in their success
  • Oversee and leverage external relationships with key partners to drive strategic approaches and successful programs
  • Manage the flow of opportunities and issues related to the channels, create solutions and resolve problems


Media And Investment Strategy

  • Performance – Focus on meeting financial goals and optimization of our investments
  • Insights - Challenge the team to discover and articulate insights (not just facts) and specific actions to be taken
  • Continually seek a consumer-centric view in all strategic thinking
  • Identify opportunities for cross-channel opportunities and optimal mix of brand, non-brand and shopping
  • Keep abreast of industry trends (trade press, seminars, current events, etc.) that may impact your channels and the business
  • Provide point-of-view on various media and changes in the marketplace (e.g. Beta opportunities, Shifts in tracking or privacy)
  • Develop creative, innovative approaches to strategically reaching the target consumer and driving positive ROI
  • Partner with ecommerce team to ensure optimal conversion of qualified traffic
  • Work with Growth Analytics Team to ensure holistic view of program effectiveness
  • Understand the dynamics around how channels work in concert
  • Analyze competitive activity in the marketplace
  • Results - Grow relationships with mid-level to senior clients to become a trusted resource for Digital Media Marketplace information
  • Assess media performance to determine effectiveness vs KPIs with a balance between driving new customers and ROAS
  • Handle all requests - i.e. plan changes, budget changes, effectively and with diligence
  • Ensure that all financials are reconciled
  • Meet with executives and industry representatives on a regular basis to pursue ideas that are strategically aligned with the business and foster strong relationships between Shutterfly Inc and the marketplace
  • Continually learn and gain expertise in new technologies and share that knowledge throughout the team and with channel and merchandise partners

  • Thorough knowledge of the dynamics of the SEM landscape. How brand and non-brand approaches impact one another as well as other channels.
  • Very strong aptitude for financials and analysis. Ability to use data to drive insights and program optimization
  • Partnering approach to building relationships with internal stakeholders and business owners
  • Test & learn mindset, always looking to understand how to optimize results
  • Ability to drive cross-channel opportunities that allow us to leverage common learnings
  • An understanding of industry and environment within which s/he operates

Technical Skills

  • Ability to understand media data sources in terms of what is measured, the method, and information reported
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles of marketing and advertising as well as an understanding of media concepts and terms, creative and budget requirements

The compensation package for this role is based on multiple factors, such as job level, responsibilities, location, and candidate experience. The base pay ranges included below are specific to the locations listed and may not be applicable to other locations.

California: [$153,000-$216,500]

Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island: [$153,000-$198,250]

Colorado and Washington: [$153,000-$183,500]

Nevada: [$143,750-$198,250]

This opportunity can be remote, but candidates must reside in a state in which Shutterfly is registered to do business. This includes all US states except District of Columbia, North Dakota, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wyoming.
