EHS DIRECTOR

We are currently looking for an EHS Director to join our dynamic team in the Corporate Office in Mesa, AZ.

Position Overview

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will work directly with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures for all BGI. This important position has various responsibilities, including regulatory compliance, safety management system oversight, and safety culture promotion. Duties also include performing safety audits, conducting safety training, and creating initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents on site. BGI performs project execution in commercial, government, and high-tech industries, and the ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to safety and environmental health management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the company’s Safety Management Program, defining a vision for an ‘Injury Free Workplace’ by fostering a positive safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations and customer contractual requirements.
  • Collect and analyze data on leading and lagging safety indicators, conduct investigations of near-misses and incidents, and implement lessons learned to maintain a best-in-class safety program.
  • Promote safety awareness and ownership at BGI and customer sites, influencing key players and project teams to deliver safe and compliant services. Unite the company’s EHS staff across projects and sites into a cohesive, high-performing team.
  • Communicate EHS values to all employees, ensure safety is integrated into project proposals and plans, and assist in key communications with clients and contractors.
  • Engage and coordinate across the business to develop new business contacts, opportunities, and revenues in the EHS market sector.
  • Develop and implement workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Provide personnel with safety-related information through training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Review and update existing safety policies and procedures as needed within BGI’s robust safety program.
  • Conduct safety audits and physically inspect all work areas and job sites to identify potential safety issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, and long-term health hazards. Prepare and present monthly or annual safety reports to management.
  • Collaborate with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.
  • Travel may be required to project sites away from the home office for short periods of time.

Qualifications

  • CSP required
  • CIH preferred
  • At least 3 years’ experience as an EHS Director is required, with a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in environmental health and safety, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Required knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • OSHA 500 or 501 preferred
  • Master’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in EHS software and technologies and working knowledge of safety management software, such as iAuditor, SiteDocs, and Safesite, or other software
  • Expertise in environmental compliance, construction management, and fleet management
  • Experience in emergency response planning
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace
  • Up-to-date legislative knowledge
  • Leadership development experience and excellent supervisory skills
  • Strong understanding of civil and environmental engineering, civil works, and building construction.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Management and supervisory skills to oversee a diverse workforce across multiple locations.
  • Require knowledge in commercial high-tech work and integrated government projects.
