The Engineer will work in substation protection and control design. Performs all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis, and is familiar with a variety of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures. This role may act as a technical specialist or expand knowledge in other disciplines and/or functional areas. This role provides technical guidance on projects, and is also responsible for developing, validating, and presenting technical output.


Responsibilities:

Project Leadership:

  • Lead Engineer for protection & controls projects in medium to high voltage utility substations.
  • Provide training on electromechanical relays, microprocessor-based relays, and related protection & controls topics.
  • Develop engineering cost estimates for proposals.
  • Oversee the preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations, and procurement recommendations.

Design and Documentation:

  • Create protection & control design submittals, including bill of materials, one-line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams, DC schematics, communication diagrams, SCADA integration, cabling, wiring, and panel front views.
  • Ensure familiarity with physical layouts of major equipment and verification of phasing.
  • Perform quality control checks of protection & control deliverables.

Engineering Expertise:

  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.
  • Generate various engineering deliverables such as contract documents, project documents, and studies with minimal supervision.

Project Management:

  • Adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of project phases, schedules, and schedule recovery as it pertains to engineering production and deliverables.
  • Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through project-related client contact and interaction with project leadership.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 4 or more years of related P&C experience demonstrating continuous growth and knowledge expansion, delivering multiple multifaceted projects simultaneously, and overseeing technical aspects of projects.
