The Prince George's County Office of Central Services (OCS) is seeking qualified applicants to fill an Energy Manager position, grade G27 within its Facilities Operation and Management Division.

About The Position

Prince George's County Office of Central Services (OCS) is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Planner IV (Energy Manager), grade G-27, within its Facilities Operation and Management Division.

This is principal level professional and administrative work, requiring the coordination, and oversight of energy saving initiatives and major groundbreaking programs throughout Prince George's County. The incumbent identifies and implements energy saving projects involving energy conservation and demand-side management. Work includes the application of considerable planning and analytical skills and the ability to solve highly complex, non-routine problems. General supervision is received from the Division Manager. Work is evaluated relative to its effectiveness in the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives and intense collaboration required with OCS Capital Improvement Program.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate all aspects of energy management, from energy efficiency and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to waste management and sustainable development by encouraging the use of renewable sustainable energy resources.
  • Recommend solutions for carbon management; raising the profile of energy conservation; benchmarking energy consumptions against best practice guidelines; keeping abreast of legislation such as Emission Trading Scheme and ensuring compliance; examining current use of energy, setting goals for future energy use; implementing new energy saving measures, and maintaining all energy production and distribution records, focusing on efficiency and safety; attempt to lower the cost of electricity and fuel use while still allowing the organization to carry out its overall goals.
  • Compose and develop policies and procedures, correspondence and reports, legislation, contracts related to efficient energy utilization benchmarking and energy conservation for County owned and leased equipment and facilities; develop, implement, and monitor an approved Prince George's County energy Mangement Plan; provide consultation and oversight for the County's energy-saving projects; review and analyze data, and make recommendations to reduce the overall cost of building operations.
  • Represents and assist the Deputy Director and Director at various meetings and conferences with County and Federal Government agencies as well as the private sector.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business or public administration, urban and regional planning, environmental studies, economics, energy policy, urban studies, housing and community development, public health or closely related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years of responsible professional planning/program development experience in the area of assignment to include at least one (1) year of lead/supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with six (6) points or less.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
