Energy Systems Research Intern (Minimum 6 month internship to start July/August)

At the Innovation & Engineering Center California (IECC), we represent the Volkswagen Group in applied research and development.   • Six Month Minimum starting in August 2024. We are unable to consider International Students/OPT or CPT at this time.

The Innovation Center California is responsible for Mobility Innovation in the North American Region. This includes advanced EV charging topics including bidirectional charging to support Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) energy transfer. The intern will be part of the project team working on topics that include but not limited to energy systems modeling, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and digital connectivity

Job Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Support advanced EV charging research and innovation topics
  • Model future electrical grid conditions and scenarios
  • Model electric vehicle battery and charging systems
  • Investigate integration pathways for bidirectional charging technologies
  • Develop optimized charging strategies and routines

Qualifications, Specialized Skills

  • Must be enrolled at a University/College or Graduation date must be within the last six months
  • Electrical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering or comparable field of study
  • Experience modeling complex energy systems understanding of electric vehicle charging technologies
  • Fluent in Python
  • Knowledge of SQL and R is a plus

EDUCATION

BS required; MS or PhD preferred

In Belmont, California, the hourly rates for this role are based on level of education:

  • Undergraduate (Junior or Senior): $35/hour
  • Graduate (Master’s): $38/hour
  • PhD: $42/hour
