ENGINEER - RESEARCH ENGINEER - Electrical Engineer

Who We Are:

SwRI Department of Space Instruments & Payloads is a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, program managers, and technicians that design and develop instruments and avionics for a variety of space applications. The space missions range from Lunar Lander applications to deep space & interplanetary missions to commercial spacecrafts to ground based observatories.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Design digital and/or analog circuit boards for space applications.
  • Design work will include requirements development, block diagrams, and schematic capture.
  • Conduct or support analysis of circuit boards such as parts stress derating, timing analysis, and worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Prepare documentation for fabrication, assembly, and testing of electronic boards.
  • Support integration and testing at the next level of assembly and thru delivery, which may require travel to the customer's site.
  • Design FPGAs using Verilog, System Verilog, or VHDL for space applications is a plus.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Work in a collaborative environment with technicians, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and scientists.
  • Test electronic boards in a lab setting using multi-meters, powers supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and other lab equipment.
  • Participate in design reviews including both internal peer reviews and external reviews with the customer.
  • Learn and abide by the division operating procedures to ensure a quality product.

Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 0-3 years: FPGA Design and Simulation.
  • 0-3 years: Electrical Circuit design and test.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
