POSITION: Environmental Scientist/Geologist

The Firm consists of an environmental consultancy, a fully accredited environmental training program, and an environmental laboratory. Airtek has an opening for an Environmental Scientist or Geologist to join our team. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing office and field work for projects in the New York City Metro area.

POSITION: Environmental Scientist/Geologist
Summary:
Airtek Environmental, Inc is an industry leader in environmental consulting. The Firm consists of an environmental consultancy, a fully accredited environmental training program, and an environmental laboratory. Airtek has an opening for an Environmental Scientist or Geologist to join our team. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing office and field work for projects in the New York City Metro area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Coordinate and conduct environmental testing and investigations
- Perform Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Subsurface Investigations
- Provide consulting services for e-designated properties
- Provide remediation monitoring activities
- Oversee the advancement of soil borings, groundwater monitoring wells, and sub-slab soil vapor implants.
- Collect field soil and groundwater samples and coordinate the laboratory analysis to ensure project completion.
- Monitor project deliverables and timelines, identify issues arise, and take corrective actions when needed.
- Collaborate with external vendors to conduct laboratory analysis, provide consulting, or perform testing services.
- Organize and facilitate project-related meetings.
- Communicate project findings and activities to clients, colleagues, and other parties involved.
- Develop reports and other deliverables as assigned by the Senior Environmental Scientist or Project Manager.
- Assist the Senior Environmental Scientist or Project Manager in tracking budget expenses. May assist with budget analysis.
- Maintain communications with internal colleagues and external customers as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Solid written and oral communication skills.
- Solid organizational and team building skills.
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and under tight schedules.
- Computer proficiency, including MS Office software (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Ability to use all basic office equipment.
- Project management skills preferred.
- BS in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or Geology.
- Preference is given to candidates with 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety and industrial hygiene services, including asbestos, lead, and indoor air quality testing.
- New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) CP-51 / Soil Cleanup Guidance and DER-10 / Technical Guidance for Site Investigation and Remediation
- Soil and water samples will be analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semi volatile organic compounds (SVOCs), pesticides, PCB’s, and TAL Metals to comply with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) CP-51 / Soil Cleanup Guidance and DER-10 / Technical Guidance for Site Investigation and Remediation.
- Move about indoors and outdoors to conduct inspections (regularly)
- Ability to ascend and descend stairwells (regularly)
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders (occasionally)
- Transport objects weighing up to or exceeding pounds. (regularly)
- Ability to safely operate a hammer and a chisel. (regularly)
- Ability to operate a laptop/computer, phone, other office productivity machinery (calculator, printer, etc.), and measuring devices. (regularly)
- Manual dexterity and coordination to manipulate field equipment and collect samples, using fingers in repetitive motion for keyboarding and writing. (regularly)
- Handle paperwork and files (regularly)
