Position Overview

Lead and manages the Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO) Operations. Develops and facilitates enterprise Project and Portfolio Management processes and reporting. Monitors of compliance to the standards. Serves as the overall subject-matter expert in Project and Portfolio Management Operations knowledge areas. Provides leadership, and insights on company-priority programs and projects.

Leads and manages selected EPMO operations and/or services. Manages staff, assigns individual responsibilities, provides training, and develop project schedules. Determine and acquire resources needed. Support IT related business planning requirements including, but not limited to budgeting, scheduling and workload planning.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages team of professionals responsible for EPMO operations.
  • Lead multiple projects and/or EPMO services and apply efficient and innovative solutions to the supporting systems, hardware, software, networking, programming, and/or applications problems.
  • Manages staff through hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining of direct reports. Provide mentoring and coaching to team members through performance evaluation and identifying development opportunities; continually developing project team competencies.
  • Perform supervisory duties including, but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports.
  • Establishes and promotes industry-recognized project management best practice and standards.
  • Responsible for the central repository for the total RGA portfolio of Projects including active project status and historical data.
  • Leads the strategy and provides ongoing maintenance and support for EPMO tools and templates (including training).
  • Assists in developing and executing governance rules for Project Management, Portfolio Management, and Change Management.
  • Establishes and maintains a process for monitoring and reporting on compliance to adopted EPMO policies, processes and procedures.
  • Perform strategic planning and maintain alignment of projects with RGA’s strategic direction.
  • Responsible for providing the Project Portfolio Management reporting tools, metrics and dashboards to the Governance Committees.
  • Provides a program to ensure continued utilization and maturation of best practice project management operations standards and methodologies.
  • Helps to ensure the growth and success of project managers and their teams by providing mentoring and training in the established processes, policies, and procedures as well as PM tools and templates.
  • Provides the RGA Project Management methodology on-boarding orientation for all Project Managers.
  • Ensure that projects provide the necessary project metrics to the portfolio management reporting process.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships, coordinating service delivery in line with negotiated Service Commitments. Take ownership of the relationship, ensure that business partner’s objectives are met, and gain mutual understanding when the objectives are not feasible.
  • Manage the business partner’s application portfolio by understanding and communicating needs to internal IT project teams and external vendors.
  • Ensure properly defined and communicated project requests. Support business partners, Technology Partners, and Product Teams in developing business requirements and business cases ensuring IT requests are understood and properly supported by all stakeholders; ensuring the integrity of the RGA IT Project Initiation process.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Requirements

Education And Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years experience in project management, portfolio management, and resource management.
  • 5+ years management experience

Preferred:

  • Six Sigma / Lean Process Evaluation / Improvement
  • Master’s degree and/or LOMA certification
  • Microsoft Certification
  • Oracle Certification
  • PeopleSoft Certification

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Direct experience in leading a PMO build out and managing/running a PMO.
  • Highly advanced project management and systems analysis skills. Demonstrates ability to evaluate project objectives and scope, analyzes objectives for feasibility, and gain business understanding
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by the customer
  • Highly advanced people management skills, demonstrating an ability to lead, mentor and develop associates
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to lead and mentor support staff
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of broad business and finance related practices
  • Advanced ability to work well within and manage a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility
  • Proficient in systems operations and project management methodologies and possesses the ability to disseminate them to the team
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • 10+ years running or operating within PMO function as well as operations and support of an enterprise application / platform
  • Insurance and/or reinsurance industry knowledge
  • Application Portfolio management experience
  • Previous experience managing large international, global projects. Effective management of projects with virtual teams
