Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Finance Intern, located at the Corporate Office in Bay City, Michigan.

Job Summary

As a Finance Intern at Michigan Sugar Company, you will gain hands-on experience in financial analysis, reporting, and data visualization. You will work closely with our finance team to support various financial functions, leveraging your PowerBI skills to create insightful dashboards and reports that drive data-driven decision making.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain PowerBI dashboards to visualize key financial metrics.
  • Analyze financial data and generate insights to support business strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and validate data.
  • Conduct variance analysis and identify trends in financial performance.
  • Participate in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) activities.
  • Support ad-hoc financial projects and analysis as needed.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity in all reports and dashboards.

Position Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with PowerBI, including dashboard creation, data modeling, and DAX functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements and financial analysis principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or project experience in a finance or data analysis role.
  • Familiarity with other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of financial modeling and forecasting techniques.

Michigan Sugar Company was founded in 1906 when six smaller sugar companies merged their operations. In 2002, Michigan Sugar Company became a grower-owned cooperative and in 2004, it merged with Monitor Sugar Company to form the company that exists today.

Michigan Sugar Company is headquartered in Bay City and has sugar beet processing facilities in Bay City, Caro, Croswell and Sebewaing, Michigan. Its nearly 900 grower-owners plant and harvest up to 160,000 acres of sugar beets each year in 20 Michigan counties, as well as Ontario, Canada. Those beets are sliced at the factories and turned into about 1.3 billion pounds of sugar annually.

That sugar is sold to industrial, commercial and retail customers under the Pioneer and Big Chief brands.

Michigan Sugar Company has 930 year-round employees and an additional 1,100 seasonal workers. It is the No. 1 employer in Huron County, the No. 2 employer in Bay and Sanilac counties and the No. 3 employer in Tuscola County. The company’s annual payroll is more than $65 million and its annual local economic impact is about $500 million.

Michigan Sugar Company is the third largest of eight sugar beet processing companies in the United States and Michigan is one of 11 states where sugar beets are grown in the country.
