Financial analysts work as part of the Ratings and Research team and act as product experts for ratings, research, product development, enhancement, and maintenance relating to one or more rated industries or categories. This position is responsible for the accuracy of the input/output for the designated rating model and all published material about the industry and rating category.


Working closely with the Director of Ratings and Research includes the responsibility to follow industry developments to update data capture, model calculations, and ensure accurate rating results. Produce publishable articles and research, responding to internal, external, customer, and press inquiries.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the applicable rating model which includes knowing the model logic and understanding how each part of the model affects the ultimate rating output
  • Knowing the source data and implications of accounting practices that derive the data
  • Being cognizant of changes in the reported data, the emergence of new risks that should be measured and potentially incorporated into the model, and overall trends in the industry
  • Modifying the model logic to implement enhancements or other changes personally or with a developer
  • Work with database administrator to add or remove fields from databases, handle data validation, and set up databases for new projects
  • Work with the Data Manager to manage ratings and report production processes
  • Oversee production of each quarterly rating, rating guide, custom reporting, and other products to ensure accurate and timely delivery
  • Regularly produce reports, articles, press releases, etc. regarding the industry and ratings
  • Conduct studies to identify trends for articles, press releases, and other publishable works
  • Compile data and respond to internal, external, press, and customer inquiries (including rated companies and member services)
  • Stay updated about industry news and trends
  • Write and maintain production and model specifications for the development and production of ratings and reports
  • Proactively lead projects including planning and scheduling, status meetings/follow-up with team members, soliciting feedback from interested parties, and managing workflow.

Participate in marketing, events, recommend product and marketing strategies, and prepare client presentations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, or a related field
  • 3-5 years experience in financial analysis.
  • Experience working with insurance data and S&P Global (Formerly SNL Financial) a benefit
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills with keen attention to detail
  • Experience with the full suite of Microsoft products especially Excel and Teams a benefit
  • Familiarity with database environments including SQL.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, adjust schedules and priorities
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive, creative research and analyses resulting in clear, concise presentation of ideas, proposals, etc.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of managing workflow, and projects and accepting full responsibility for product
