Fiscal Technician II

Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Central Office, 2414 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201

As the Fiscal Technician II, you will process claims for Community Mental Health Centers. Ensure all electronic claims for billing are filed in a timely and accurate manner. Also responsible for resolving outstanding claims, insurance verification, enters and reconciles billing, and transfer to other TPL as necessary. Will follow up on claims filed and ensure payment is received by insurance carriers. Ensure billing reports are completed with accuracy. Respond to correspondence through mail or telephone as needed.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Creates insurance payer claims once charges are closed and accurately allocated. Prepare and batch all claims in the CIS system for transmission and processing. Submits claims electronically in the CIS system to have them uploaded for billing. Must process claims and work edits in our clearinghouse from our CIS system for CMHC.
  • Performs appropriate follow up activities to ensure timely reimbursement and to minimize aged claims. Maintains files to document all work related to claims processing follow up and payments or denials. Contacts any insurance company or utilize poral access to obtain and/or verifies any available benefits or coverage information for CMHC.
  • Completes weekly and monthly reports for payers to include but not limited to outstanding, unbilled, error, and balancing reports etc. Works monthly recon report from AR Department.
  • Works with center billing staff to compete necessary correspondence, reporting, billing corrections, credit card posting etc., as needed.
  • Responds to any correspondence and telephone calls for sources within timely manner.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirement: A high school diploma and entry-level experience in accounting or bookkeeping. A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses may be substituted for required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to adapt to changes, work well with others and work to resolve any issues that may arise in workflow circumstances.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments

This position may require increased workload and assistance of duties for programs throughout the agency. Limited to no overnight travel.
