Food Scientist – Protein Application and Seasonings

This position conducts product testing, matching seasonings and finished products, and develops new products for specific protein-based applications.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops and reverse engineers products for customers based on ingredient, cost, performance and sensory targets.
  • Develops meat flavor systems (Whole muscle, ground, topical application, marinades, etc.) in conjunction with Meat Pilot Plant personnel.
  • Consults with suppliers and procurement team to determine appropriate raw materials necessary to develop quality products including solicitation of advice and technical support on applications and suitability.
  • Solicits advice and technical support from other department members on applications and suitability of project plan.
  • Determines ingredient and finished product cost feasibility.


Key Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Previous experience in food product development is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills including knowledge of ingredient functionality across a broad range of food products and the ability to develop successful products.
  • Demonstrated experience of excellent communication, working well in a team environment, confidence, enthusiasm and initiative and the ability to work closely with customers.
  • Excellent concise technical writing and computer skills.
