Job Description

A food service worker performs a variety of tasks involved in food preparation, service, and sanitation within a dining establishment. They are responsible for ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the kitchen and dining areas while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation:
• Assist in preparing ingredients for cooking, such as washing and chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and assembling salads or sandwiches.
• Follow recipes and portion sizes to ensure consistent food quality.
• Cooking and Serving:
• Cook food items according to established recipes and customer orders, using various cooking methods (e.g., grilling, frying, baking).
• Serve food to customers either at a counter, buffet-style, or at tables, ensuring correct portions and presentation.
• Handle customer inquiries, take orders accurately, and provide recommendations when requested.
• Cleaning and Sanitizing:
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
• Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment according to sanitation guidelines.
• Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, including countertops, cooking surfaces, and storage areas.
• Stocking and Inventory Management:
• Monitor inventory levels of food and supplies, restock items as needed, and rotate stock to ensure freshness.
• Notify supervisors of low inventory or equipment issues.
• Adherence to Health and Safety Regulations:
• Follow proper food handling procedures to prevent food contamination and ensure food safety.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines, including wearing appropriate attire and using protective equipment as required.
• Teamwork and Collaboration:
• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, servers, and other team members to ensure efficient operation of the food service establishment.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
  

Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a food service or kitchen environment preferred.
• Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy items (e.g., trays of food, bags of supplies).
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  
  

Education and Training:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• On-the-job training provided; additional culinary or food safety certification may be beneficial.
  
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy loads.
  
  

Compensation $18/hr

40/hrs week
