Where Hope and Healing begin…Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center is dedicated to serving children who are victims of severe neglect, physical and sexual abuse through prevention, education, intervention and treatment. Safe Harbor is a non-profit agency that offers specialized services, at no cost to a child or their family, to aid in the investigation of child abuse and crimes witnessed by children in the 4th Judicial District.
General Description
The forensic interviewer will provide developmentally and culturally appropriate and legally defensible forensic interviews of children and adolescents (ages 3 – 17, younger when appropriate) alleging sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, who have been witness to a violent crime, as well as victims of child trafficking or child pornography and/or in cases where the interviewee is alleged to be the victim of such crime or act. The forensic interviewer must meet minimum training, education and experience requirements and maintain ongoing training and participation in peer review.
The forensic interviewer will be responsible for maintaining accurate data, notes and case files. The forensic interviewer will report data in a timely fashion to the forensic interview program supervisor. The forensic interviewer will participate in peer review and CPIT (Child Protective Investigation Team) meetings and will be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary teams of the 4th Judicial District.
The forensic interviewer will uphold confidentiality policies of Safe Harbor and the multi-disciplinary teams.
Duties And Responsibilities
Conduct forensic interviews for appropriate cases referred to Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center according to Safe Harbor Forensic Interview protocol and protocol for which each interviewer received formal training.
Ensure that written interview reports are completed in a timely manner, subpoenas are responded to in a timely manner
Participate in case reviews and present cases when requested
Assist the advocate in collecting all relevant child and family history and making appropriate referrals
Enter data in case tracking system
Participate in supervision, professional development and on-going training activities
Maintain the required training by MDT – Initial 8 hours of approved MDT Coordinator training and continuing education of 8 hours every two years in child maltreatment and/or facilitation.
Remain current on required training and professional development
Maintains confidentiality of client information.
Other duties as assigned.
CPIT Coordination
Serves as the primary coordinator for each of the four CPITs in the 4th Judicial District.
Coordinates and facilitates day-to-day information sharing and activities of the CPIT. This will include CPIT meeting scheduling, facilitation, and maintenance of the dockets in a timely manner.
Tracks cases and communicates with team members to ensure cases are reviewed and provides follow up as needed.
Fosters healthy, collaborative relationships among CPIT team members.
Facilitates dialogue and feedback from all team members during case review, ensuring that each discipline has the opportunity to provide feedback.
Demonstrates an understanding of group dynamics, conflict resolution techniques, and team problem-solving.
Demonstrates a knowledge of and ability to work with a variety of professionals in the multi-disciplinary team.
Familiar with the CPIT protocol and NCA MDT Accreditation Standards and ensures fidelity to requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
Meets all qualifications for a forensic interviewer outlined in T.C.A. 24-7-123, Department of Children’s Services and NCA Accreditation standards.
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to social science, education, criminal justice, nursing, psychology or other helping profession, a master’s degree is preferred
Experience equivalent to three (3) years of full-time professional work in one or a combination of the following: child protective services, criminal justice, clinical evaluation, forensic interviewing, or other comparable work with children, demonstrated professional knowledge of child abuse and neglect and child development (through course work, professional training, or higher education) and demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teamwork
Strong communication skills both orally and in writing and be comfortable presenting to groups.
