Formulation Chemist

Job Description

Position Summary:

A growing Health and Beauty Company is seeking a Formulation Chemist with past formulation experience related to health and personal care products. The primary purpose of the position is to formulate new products, create product documentation, prepare samples, coordinate R&D trials, support manufacturing operations, and provide training to other members of the R&D organization. The individual must engage with other departments including Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Sales, Manufacturing Operations, and Purchasing, to ensure procedures and specifications are set properly and can be met consistently.

Responsibilities:

• The Formulation Chemist will create and validate new formulas and processes and will support company initiatives regarding efficiency and innovations.
• Develop new and improved formulations including toothpaste, oral care products, lotions, creams, aerosols, capsules, and other personal care and pharmaceutical products.
• Collaborate with process engineering and the Operations team to establish manufacturing specifications and process instructions.
• Responsible for the formula and process transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
• Research, evaluate, and approve raw materials for use in manufactured products.
• Generate and analyze data to validate finished goods and support new products. Monitor product test history and stability data. Ensure formulas are maintained and updated.
• Assess the impact of formula changes with respect to cost, specifications, and labeling.
• Manage multiple projects at one time. Provide regular and timely feedback on project statuses.
• Assist in writing, editing, and training on department SOPs as needed.
