Position Overview

The Formulation Technician I is responsible for assembling, operating, and cleaning processing equipment; preparing coating solutions and other formulas; and performs various analytical testing including but not limited to particle size testing, moisture analysis, and viscosity. Typical processing duties include accurate measurement of components, close monitoring of process conditions, accurate calculations, troubleshooting problems in the process, and working closely with clients. In some instances, processing will take place in a cGMP environment and will require additional processing duty of following detailed instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Following initial training, the Formulation Technician I is expected to be capable of independent assembly and cleaning of the research equipment efficiently and accurately. Additionally, the Formulation Technician I should be proficient in the operation of this equipment and able to troubleshoot when necessary.

Essential Job Functions

  • Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles coating units and areas.
  • Operates equipment in assigned suite (i.e. Coating, Capsule Filling or other research equipment).
  • Verifies label and lot information.
  • Verifies tasks performed by other personnel.
  • Identifies deviations to processes under their control and labels containers to its contents, lot numbers, weight, etc.
  • Transfers solvents from large to small containers.
  • Stages materials and/or equipment for processing.
  • Mixes coating solutions and other formulas.
  • Occasionally assists with research reports and batch records.
  • Maintains accurate records.
  • Performs simple mathematical calculations.
  • Works with controlled substances.
  • Follows all CPI cGMP practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Follows all CPI safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Employees at CPI work with and/or are familiar with the GMP requirements for Food, Dietary Supplements, Pharmaceuticals, or other elements of each.
  • Depending on the position, the employee will be aware of Halal and/or Kosher requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Skills/Knowledge Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant manufacturing experience required. Minimum 2 years of cGMP manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) preferred.
  • A basic understanding of the purpose and contents within the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Basic mathematical skills with the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversions.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write (legibly), and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, co-workers, and/or clients.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 55 lb. and move objects weighing up to 265 lb.
