Description

The School of Public Service seeks a dynamic individual to serve as the founding MSW Practicum Director. This is a full-time (12 month) instructor (non-tenure) or assistant professor (tenure track). The position will start January, 2025. The Founding MSW Practicum Director will lead the launch of our online MSW Practicum Education for Fall 2025, establishing policies and overseeing practicum education. This role involves developing community agency relationships, ensuring quality practicum education, and supporting students' practicum experiences. Key responsibilities include assisting with accreditation, curriculum development, program implementation, faculty hiring, and student recruitment. The Practicum Director will integrate academic learning with fieldwork, fostering students' professional growth. While primarily teaching in the MSW program, the Practicum Director may also teach in other degree programs (e.g. Human Services). This position requires strong leadership and administrative skills to successfully establish and manage this new online MSW practicum education.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach MSW and/or related courses utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to engage students in learning.
  • Develop, implement, and manage MSW practicum education in alignment with accreditation standards and program goals.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies to provide diverse and high-quality practicum placements.
  • Coordinate the placement process, including matching students with appropriate practicum sites and ensuring alignment with their educational goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to students throughout their practicum experience, including orientation, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Address any issues or challenges that arise during the practicum, working collaboratively with students, faculty, and agency supervisors.
  • Monitor student progress and performance, ensuring compliance with program requirements and professional standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for practicum agencies, fostering strong relationships and ensuring effective communication.
  • Conduct virtual site visits and evaluations to assess the quality of practicum placements and provide feedback to agencies.
  • Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for agency supervisors to enhance their capacity to mentor and supervise students.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate practicum experiences with academic coursework ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience.
  • Participate in curriculum development and review to ensure that practicum components align with program objectives and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of student placements, evaluations, and other relevant documentation.
  • Prepare reports and documentation required for accreditation and program evaluation.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other activities as required.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and two or more years of post-MSW practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Master-level license in their respective state; experience working in higher education in relation to practicum education (e.g. practicum liaison, practicum instructor); experience providing effective student-centered teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners; experience with innovative teaching approaches and use of distance education technologies in teaching; and experience with online course development.
