The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

The role

ACLED is recruiting a Fundraising Manager to join our Grants & Development team.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service. It is open to nationals of any country. This position reports to the Head of Grants & Development.

The Fundraising Manager will be responsible for the following tasks:

Fundraising Planning & Execution

  • Implement ACLED’s fundraising strategy to meet and exceed financial goals, in collaboration with the Head of Grants & Development and the Executive team.
  • Identify, build, and manage relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, public sector funders, corporate sponsors, international organizations, and foundations.
  • Research prospective funding opportunities.
  • Develop applications and letters of inquiry/intent for selected funding opportunities.;
  • Attend in-person conferences, workshops, or other events to meet with donors and pitch projects, in partnership with members of the Global Programs and Executive teams.
  • Coordinate decision-making around whether to pursue the renewal/extension of projects where necessary.
  • Engage with donors around project renewal or pursue alternative funding sources for projects.
  • Coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities for prospective supporters and existing donors.

Project/Proposal Design

  • Support the development of new projects/proposals in partnership with the Global Programs team.
  • Tailor existing proposals to align with the needs of potential donors.
  • Consult with the Chiefs and Department Heads to ensure proposals align with their capacities.Support the development of proposal budgets in partnership with the Finance team.
  • Support the development of proposal budgets in partnership with the Finance team.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from past projects/proposals in coordination with the DMEL team.
  • Ensure all requirements are considered and proposals are submitted by the deadline.

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Maintain records of all fundraising activities and donor interactions in Salesforce.
  • Prepare reports on progress made towards fundraising goals to be presented to the Head of Grants & Development and Executive team.
  • Coordinate with the Finance and Operations teams for any administrative activities.

Access Management

  • Oversee the management of ACLED’s Access Portal, documentation and communications around the access system, and the Access email.
  • Ensure the team addresses user queries and troubleshoots issues that come through the Access inbox where the support needed is related to public sector accounts or technical/access-related in nature.
  • Identify and raise issues noted by users with senior management personnel, where relevant.
  • Participate in product development activities in collaboration with the Product Development Committee and support the rolling out of new products for public sector users.

Other Responsibilities

  • Partner with the communications team to develop, refine, and contribute to fundraising-related marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, social media content, and the organization’s website.
  • Evaluate the success of fundraising activities and events and identify areas in need of improvement.
  • Perform other ad hoc administrative and coordination tasks related to fundraising as assigned by the Head of Grants & Development.

Skills and competencies

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

  • 5 years of experience supporting fundraising and development (required);
  • Proven record of fundraising to achieve specific funding targets.
  • Experience working with data, preferably related to conflict and/or political disorder.
  • Experience in developing grant proposals and budgets.
  • Experience working with donors (public sector, foundations, international organizations) is essential.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector is desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or commensurate experience in a leadership position in that field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with limited supervision.
