We are working on a CONFIDENTIAL General Counsel search for a well-known organization in NYC. The role involves serving as a key legal and business advisor within our organization, providing strategic legal guidance to the Leadership Team, and working closely with the C-Suite. The role is high-energy, entrepreneurial, results-driven, and requires a highly organized individual.

  • Salary is $225K (may have some flexibility)

Responsibilities:


  • Serves as a legal, compliance and business advisor to the CEO, senior leadership, and staff on a wide variety of matters related to production, programming, business strategies and deal opportunities.
  • Serves as Lead Negotiator on key business transactions and major partnerships
  • Structures, drafts, and negotiates a high volume of programming, production, content distribution, sponsorships, marketing partnerships, vendor, and rental agreements, including, talent agreements, license agreements, options and other rights and development-related agreements
  • Leads contract negotiations, crafts new language as needed based upon deal negotiations, responds to comments received from client counsel in a timely manner and works through any legal issues that arise to bring deals to fruition with timely execution of related agreements
  • Creates and keeps organized impeccable records and logs all legal matters
  • Remains current with the latest industry standards, trends, and best practices
  • Creates and maintains form templates to be used interdepartmentally to ensure all business and legal affairs documents remain consistent


Requirements:


  • 6 -8 years of corporate law experience, either in-house or at a law firm, ideally working within the media, entertainment, or sports industries including substantial experience in contract law, rights and clearances, production, broadcast and content deals
  • JD degree and member of the NY State Bar
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess superior organization and time management skills
  • Impeccable written and verbal communications skills and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Exemplary skills as a negotiator and draftsperson with the ability to compare and challenge precedent
  • Highly proactive, collaborative and a strong consensus builder that has the ability to be an influencer that drives the business forward creating an environment that fosters innovation and integrity
  • Understands the need for urgency and timeliness, with flexibility to do what is needed to accomplish tasks
  • Takes pride and ownership of all responsibilities and ensures success
