Job Description

We are seeking a General Manager to work in Appleton, WI. INX is the 3rd largest manufacturer on ink in the United States. The General Manager directs and coordinates all production, technical, distribution, sales, and administrative activities of the Plant, while promoting the effective use of all personnel to achieve the best possible sales, quality and profits for the benefit of the Company. In this position, you will be the ambassador of our Corporate Vision and Guiding Principles to achieve the highest level of customer and employee satisfaction. This role aids in developing and achieving long-range goals and objectives and communicates company policy, guidelines, procedures and visionary direction to all subordinates.

As a General Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Working with the Director of Operations in developing a detailed manufacturing program designed to obtain effective equipment utilization, consistent with adequate warehousing, preventative maintenance, proper manpower utilization, and repair and overhaul schedules, with full consideration given to cost, facilities, resource utilization and satisfactory quality and customer service
  • Directing and monitoring the application of approved manufacturing programs, working with personnel to supervise in analyzing and correcting causes of significant deviations from plans
  • Advising the Director of Operations of progress on critical phases of the manufacturing program and taking necessary steps to expedite the successful attainment of plant activity objectives
  • Reviewing production problems and arranging for the proper manpower and equipment to attain production schedules
  • Reviewing and approving the scheduling of shift hours for proposed production before commitments are made
  • Reviewing performance and production reports and taking appropriate action based on the results
  • Working with appropriate plant personnel throughout the manufacturing organization in developing a “quality-consciousness and pride-of-workmanship” to assist in attaining quality objectives
  • Reviewing quality reports and customer reports. When appropriate, following up to ensure Corrective Actions and Preventative Actions are completed
  • Working with appropriate branch personnel and Corporate R&D in making decisions and recommendations that have important impact on technical activities within the plant and the company
  • Working with the Director of Operations in setting minimum and maximum inventory levels of stock items and to take advantage of spot business, consistent with effective branch operations
  • Frequently inspecting the methods of handling and storing inventories to ensure compliance with procedures and taking corrective action to eliminate unsatisfactory conditions
  • Working with the Director of Operations in developing sound relationships with customers so that a better understanding of customer product requirements and operating problems is obtained to provide a basis for improving customer service
  • Developing throughout the manufacturing and technical departments a realization of the effects of the individual phases of operation on operating costs
  • Directing personnel tasked with planning departmental performance against the budget to anticipate and minimize possible losses
  • Working with Corporate personnel and personnel responsible for the development and application of new or improved methods, equipment or procedures to reduce costs
  • Applying an aggressive employee development plan so that each employee reaches their maximum development in their present position and progresses to the limit of their abilities
  • Developing a good performance feedback system. Assuring that all employees are recognized immediately by supervisors for doing their jobs correctly and informing them of their mistakes as soon as they occur

Qualifications

To perform your job as expected, you will be required to:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a 4-year college, preferably in Business Management or Engineering
  • Have 5 to 10 years’ line supervision of management or supervisor experience, preferably in manufacturing and 3 - 5 years of ink industry experience
  • Have manufacturing, warehouse and supervisory/managerial experience
  • Demonstrate mechanical skills and knowledge of production processes
  • Have excellent math skills, as well as oral, written, reading and comprehension skills in order to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Suite programs (MS Office) and other computer skills
  • Show prior experience leading, coaching, and developing a team and delivering performance metrics through others
  • Possess strong skills, knowledge, and capability in manufacturing principles such as OEE, Lean, or TPM

In addition to these qualifications, we will consider it a plus if you have:

  • SAP Knowledge
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups
  • Have worked in a production or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with change management
