We are seeking a collaborative, data-driven and accountable leader to expand our underwriting operations. As the Head of Operations, you will drive critical initiatives to advance our underwriting processes, improve operations, identify actionable insights from our data, support our stop-loss carrier partners and deliver impactful business results. You will work cross- functionally to support the underwriting team, develop advanced data analytics and reporting and manage key performance indicators. As a member of the underwriting leadership team, you will play a critical role in helping unlock Pareto’s next phase of growth as we deepen and expand our healthcare platform. This role will report directly into the Chief Underwriting Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, track, and report on departmental OKRs, performance, and KPIs. Partner with Finance and Tech to build dashboards and reporting to monitor team performance and measure KPIs.
  • Evaluate underwriting operation performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Partner with the analytics and FP&A team to obtain the necessary data for developing reports to support these analyses.
  • Develop and maintain effective staffing models and partner with FP&A to monitor expense and loss ratios
  • Analyze loss ratios, claim frequencies, and other key indicators to assess risk and pricing adequacy. Partner with key contacts at reinsurance carriers to ensure effective risk management.
  • Continuously evaluate underwriting performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Partner with the data analytics team to create predictive models and tools that enhance underwriting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Utilize data and analytics to understand underwriting performance, identify actionable insights, and predict future trends. This includes journey mapping, segmentation, surveying, and client health scoring to devise the optimal support and engagement model.
  • Identify, document, and streamline underwriting processes and workflows.
  • Evaluate, select, implement, and manage tech stack and tools to support team operations in partnership with the Product / Tech team.
  • Support post-sales enablement and training to ensure the team has the skills and tools they need to succeed, including the development and delivery of onboarding, training programs, and resources.
  • Drive cross-functional strategic initiatives and projects, either leading as a program manager or serving as a team representative.
  • Serve as a player-coach and build out a team of direct reports focused on underwriting operations.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of operations experience, with at least 5 years of healthcare industry experience, preferably in insurance and/or employer health benefits
  • Experience building processes and staffing models designed to measure efficiency and staffing needs
  • Ability to build credibility by being a detailed oriented, data fluent customer operations leader
  • Ability to communicate with day-to-day operational teams along with executive leadership through both written and oral communication
  • Experience optimizing a larger operational team with a focus on process improvement leveraging data and insights Proven track record taking an idea from concept through execution
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to confidently communicate with customers, partners, and executive leadership
  • Ability to build strong relationships and successfully motivate and inspire cross-functional team
  • Thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that’s growing and evolving rapidly
  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Experience building dashboards in Tableau
