Role Description

As our first Head of Payroll, reporting into our Controller, you will have the unique opportunity to join GFiber at a transformational time in the company’s history. In your role, you will be responsible for all aspects of GFiber’s payroll function including standing it up with our own efficient and compliant processes, systems, and organization design and its continuous innovation to ensure it scales. Your unique perspectives and ability to solve problems with a lean team will be counted on everyday as you build out GFiber’s payroll operations.

In this role, you'll:

  • Lead the design and implementation of GFiber's payroll system, policies, strategies, and processes, both now and future state, in partnership with Finance, People Ops/HR, Legal, IT, Eng and consultants.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing including adherence with tax regulations, labor laws and any federal/state payroll related legislation.
  • Ensure seamless inbound and outbound integrations between the payroll system and GFiber’s new HR information system, benefit programs, stock equity platform and accounting systems (including SAP S/4HANA, Workday)
  • Develop and lead vendor relationships and service-level quality related to payroll operations.
  • Manage employee questions and escalations related to their pay; address off-cycle issues.
  • Provide reporting, audits, and analytics to stakeholders and partner teams on a regular and ad-hoc basis (e.g. payroll by jurisdiction).

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • 10 years of experience in a payroll function, including a mix of payroll implementation and payroll administration experience.
  • 2 years of experience building, managing and growing a mixed team of full-time employees, outsourced vendors, and contractors.
  • Expertise in the proper application of US payroll taxes and garnishments across various use cases.
  • Experience working with ADP, Workday HRIS, and/or equivalent software and provider.
  • Experience managing system and process changes.

It's preferred if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
  • Experience using SAP S/4HANA, or equivalent software and provider.
  • Experience in roles that frequently required attention to detail, discretion, and change management.
  • Ability to use written and verbal communication to persuade, influence, and inform internal and external stakeholders.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $149,000 - $218,000 + bonus + cash award + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
