Vision for This Position: The Head of Virtual School is responsible for growing our virtual school program. The virtual school program offers families an accredited schooling experience that is engaging, flexible, and rigorous, supporting students for full time and part time learning and as a supplement to homeschool education. This role leads the virtual school strategy, growing enrollment, organizational design, and daily operations to school culture, wrap-around services, and delivery of instruction. The Head of Virtual School leads a small program team and collaborates deeply with the VP, Operations to enact and direct school operations and the SVP, Revenue/Growth Marketing to achieve student enrollment goals. This person reports to the President and will work closely with leaders in Operations, Marketing, Finance, and Product.

Job Responsibilities

Growth Strategy

  • Create and communicate a credible vision and strategy for revenue generation for the virtual school.
  • Collaborate closely with the President, SVP of Revenue and Growth Marketing, and VP of Finance to produce a revenue plan with associated metrics and KPIs for enrollment and program growth and retention.
  • Own school culture, differentiation, and student and family experience.
  • Own enrollment targets, including lead generation, recruitment, conversion rates, and enrollment numbers.
  • Collaborate with Revenue and Growth Marketing strategy to increase student enrollment swiftly and in alignment with budget expectations.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including prospective families, consultants, community professionals, and feeder networks.
  • Perform incisive and insightful market research and competitor analysis to inform our market position and substantiate growth and retention initiatives.
  • Imagine, validate, and implement an annual plan that aligns with the business strategy, strategic operations plan, and budget expectations.

Program Strategy

  • Philosophy: Enact the school’s philosophy by weaving the mission, vision, and values into programs and services offered to families and the larger virtual school community.
  • School Design: Refine the program strategy for academic rigor, culture, student and staff connections, asynchronous and synchronous learning, and supporting the unique needs of virtual learners.
  • Academic Strategy and Courses: Elevate the academic strategy in relation to our Inspired Learner Framework, delivery of instruction, learning supports, and additional service options.
  • Program Offering: Annually evaluate courses to ensure alignment to the school Philosophy, Design, and Academic Strategy, including core, elective, AP, and CTE/CCR options that serve students in grades 6-12.
  • Program Growth: Collaborate with the President and Director of Student Life to build and enhance school programs, ensuring that Brightspire offers an attractive learning community and holistic education experience.

Educational Leadership and Academic Support

  • Meet regularly with virtual school partners to review instructional quality and program efficacy, making recommendations for areas of improvement.
  • Establish a dynamic school culture that is inclusive, reflects family and student needs, and creates positive connections among students and staff.
  • Ensure program offering aligns with interests and needs of families/students and are differentiators in the virtual school space.

Operations and Regulations

  • Ensure rules and regulations for operating a virtual school are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Keep policies for staff, parents, and students up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with VP, Operations to implement continuous improvement processes for school operations, including enrollment, scheduling, tuition/billing, and planning of wrap-around services.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required; MBA, Master's degree, teaching credential, counseling degree, and/or administration credential appreciated; previous teaching experience a plus
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in a leadership role within a virtual/online school environment
  • Experience managing a P&L and having revenue generation responsibilities required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience leading a virtual school, leading a P&L, or have a previous role directing admissions
  • Outstanding leadership skills with the ability to create a high-performing team, manage conflict, set and execute goals, and hold people accountable
  • Ability to analyze data to understand enrollment, student outcomes, an instructional quality, and to effectively manage the virtual school budget
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, creative thinker, and problem solver
  • Comfortable using a variety of technologies for productivity, communication, design, and development tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills and superior attention to detail
  • A passion for making a difference in the educational outcomes of students and being part of a learning community
