Job Summary/Basic Function

About This Role:

  • The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive strength and conditioning programs for all student-athletes at Lamar University. This role involves designing sport-specific training regimens that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risks, and promote overall health and wellness. The coordinator collaborates with coaching staff, sports medicine personnel, coaches and nutritionists to ensure a holistic approach to athlete development.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

  • Works directly with the Associate S&C Coach/Director of Football Performance to design and implement strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
  • Conduct regular testing of student-athletes to determine the effectiveness of the programs and provide feedback to the Director of Football Performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of student-athlete’s progress for student athletes, reporting progress of student-athletes to the Associate S&C Coach/Director of Football Performance and the respective head coach.
  • Assist with the scheduling and daily upkeep of strength & conditioning facilities.
  • Assist the Associate S&C Coach/Director of Football Performance with the proper supervision of student-athletes to ensure that all student-athletes receive proper instruction on the safe usage of weight machines and free weights.
  • Responsible for administrative and business-related items for the department including personnel, budget coordination and management, equipment and supply procurement, and travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to collaborate with other staff members within the Lamar University Athletics department
  • Knowledge of strength training, speed, agility, flexibility, nutrition and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Knowledge/commitment to the rules and regulations of the NCAA , Southland Conference, Texas State University System and Lamar University.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to motivate a variety of student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities.
  • Strict adherence to established NCAA , Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally moves supplies and equipment in excess of 50 pounds

Job Conditions

  • Position functions may take place indoors, as well as outdoors in variable weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to the position summary and essential job functions and 1-2 years relevant experience in a collegiate athletic setting or comparable.
  • Current first aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association ( NSCA - CSCS ) required.
