The Human Resource payroll manager will have a hand in a variety of aspects of HR, including primary responsibility in running a multi-state full cycle payroll processing. In addition, this role will be involved in generalist activities in the HR department. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of building relationships with everyone throughout the company and becomes the "go-to“ resource when it comes to supporting all aspects of the employment experience from hiring to retirement. This is a contract role for approximately 6 months.

The details

Primary responsibility: Payroll, benefits and reporting.

  • Administers and maintains payroll records, processing, timekeeping functions for all US Martin Bauer Group companies.
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares reports for year end and as needed.
  • Manages 401(k), Tax credits, unemployment and worker’s compensation reporting, compliance, and audits.
  • Tracks and reports trends in turnover, absenteeism, overtime, and other HR metrics.
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external rules and regulations for payroll administration, reporting, 401(k), state and federal tax credits, and compliance agencies.
  • Collaborate with the accounting department for payroll reporting.
  • Conduct data entry tasks related to payroll information.
  • Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits.
  • Conduct benefits orientations and provide ongoing assistance to employees related to benefits
  • Maintain employee benefits filing systems and ensure benefits changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction.
  • Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims and costs. Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.
  • Work with external administrator to manage COBRA.
  • Review and respond to unemployment claims with appropriate documentation. Review monthly unemployment statements.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims with third-party administrator. Follow up on claims.
  • Prepare and set up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand company benefits and other related incentive programs. Ensure distribution of required employee notices.


Generalist Human Resources Responsibilities:

  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Conduct or acquire background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implement and conduct new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Partner with managers on any employment relations matters concerning their employees.
  • Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide administrative support to the HR Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


This is a remote-friendly position. Occasional in-person attendance at the office may be requested on short notice.


Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years’ experience in payroll, benefits, and HR administration
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least 2 years previous experience running multi-state full cycle payroll through ADP WFN
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and standards of payroll and benefits administration
  • Must possess research and analytical skills
  • State and federal labor laws and regulations, specifically related to HR, payroll and benefits administration, payroll and benefits tax, and government agency reporting requirements
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Impeccable organizational and time-management abilities
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional attention to detail as well as the ability to see the big picture
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills with a detail-oriented approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and confidentiality when presented with sensitive information
