ILP Secondary (2024/2025 School Year)

Function / Position Summary

To provide individualized instruction as mandated by individual student IEPs

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Plan a program of study that follows district guidelines and meets the individual needs of students.
  • Implement researched-based teaching strategies that engage all students; acknowledging a range of abilities of students and cultural backgrounds.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and motivates students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Display a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
  • Plan for and guide the learning process toward the mastery of IEP goals, and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects that are clearly communicated to students.
  • Implement school improvement plans and strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis, and as requested by the administration.
  • Implement assessments and communicate student progress.
  • Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivates students to work to their highest potential.
  • Assist in the referral and diagnosis of students with learning difficulties, seeking assistance from other school personnel as required.
  • Work cooperatively with building principal and/or director in assessing his/her teaching strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing a program to improve his/her teaching competencies.
  • Participate on curriculum, personnel, policy or professional development committees related to the educational program.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assist administration in implementing student discipline policies and maintains order in area(s) assigned and/or supervised in a fair and just manner.
  • Responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of individualized academic, behavioral and social programming; IEPs.
  • Complete all necessary special education forms included IEPs, transition plans, Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans, etc.
  • Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion.
  • Participate and assist with Service Team meetings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate parent meetings.
  • Understand and implement empirically supported behavioral interventions.
  • Oversee and effectively utilize Para-educators assigned to the ILP setting.
  • Ability to coordinate with related services personnel.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement Community Based Trips.
  • Deliver instruction based on best practices for students with autism.
  • Ability to complete all special education paperwork and monitor student progress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be flexible and be able to tolerate many situations and personalities.
  • Must have verbal skills to communicate effectively with the public.
  • Must be able to withstand emotional stress.
  • Calmly and effectively deal with student problem behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal, or other administrative staff.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related subject(s) from an accredited University.
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS I endorsement.
  • Special Education Teaching experience preferred.
  • Clinical or educational experience with the autism population.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Knowledge of academic and behavior strategies and interventions used with the autism population.
  • Familiarity with integrating assistive technology
  • Training in CPI

Physical Demands

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing
  • Assist students on/off bus
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching
  • Must work indoors
  • May require assisting students with feeding and/or toileting needs

  • This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education
