This position is an On-Site position in LaVergne, Tennessee and will report to the Network Infrastructure Manager. We are looking for an initiative-taking and experienced Network Engineer to manage and support our network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience with Cisco and Fortinet technologies, particularly in the design, implementation, and maintenance of SDWAN solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Network Design and Implementation:
- Design, configure, and implement network solutions using Cisco and Fortinet products.
- Configures, installs, and manages various network devices and services, such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Develop and deploy SDWAN solutions to optimize network performance and reliability.
- Design and plan wireless network architecture based on J&J needs. This includes offices, warehouses, remote distribution centers and production plant environments.
- Conduct site surveys and RF analysis to determine optimal access point placement.
- Configure, deploy, and maintain wireless access points and controllers.
Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Monitor network performance and ensure network security.
- Maintains a nationwide focus on the overall health of the network and ensures high availability and high performance of network solutions to meet business needs
- Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Conduct regular network assessments and audits to ensure best performance and compliance.
- Uses various testing/troubleshooting tools and skills, traces out fiber and CAT 6 cables across multiple IDF closets and patch panels. Labels and documents cabling and network hardware changes.
- Perform troubleshooting and resolve Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
Network Monitoring:
- Monitors the performance of facility networks and ensures network availability and reliability. Develops and updates network documentation and network maps.
- Experience with monitoring products such as SolarWinds is needed for this role.
- Monitor and optimize network performance to ensure seamless wireless experience.
Security Management:
- Updates network equipment with the latest approved firmware releases, patch systems and arranges scheduled upgrades.
- Ensure all wireless networks are secured with all the controls appropriate for the use of the network.
- Implement and manage network security policies and procedures.
- Configure and manage firewalls, VPNs, and other security devices.
- Perform regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, changes, and issues.
- Provide regular reports on network performance, security, and usage.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with other IT teams to integrate network solutions with other systems.
- Provide technical support and training to team members and clients.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve the network infrastructure.
COMPETENCIES:
To perform this job successfully, the Network Engineer must be self-motivated, able to problem solve, detail-oriented, and able to stay on task. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed.
- Experience with SDWAN design, implementation, and management.
- Strong knowledge of routing, switching, and network security.
- Ability in configuring and managing Cisco and Fortinet routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Ability in configuring and managing Fortinet firewalls, VPNs, and security solutions.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, NSE4, or equivalent is highly desirable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on Cisco and Fortinet technologies.
- Experience with IT security tools, services, and vendors.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
