INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER/SCIENTIST.

Duties

  • You will identify and solve a wide variety of Electro Optics and Infrared complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints.
  • You will deliver optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints for Electro Optics and Infrared systems.
  • You will work on varied, complex equipment systems and subsystems associated with research, innovation, or reengineering assignments and demonstrates competence and creativity in developing new concepts.
  • You will function as a project lead, program manager, team lead or member of an integrated team/group providing technical guidance to a technical workforce and meeting customer requirements for products and/or services.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Acquisition Workforce (AWF) members must complete 80 hours of Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) every two (2) years, in accordance with DoDI 5000.66.

Qualifications

DP-02: Applicants who meet the basic education requirement are automatically qualified for this pay band.

For DP-03:

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (DP-02) pay band or (GS 5-9) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing computer science, operations research or other professional scientific work involved with the scientific aspects in the development and application of mathematical theories, methods and operations in research and engineering, test and evaluation and logistics functions; 2) Identifying and solving a wide variety of complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints; 3) Delivering optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints.

For DP-04:

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (DP-03) pay band or (GS 9-11) grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing computer science, operations research or other professional scientific work involved with the scientific aspects in the development and application of mathematical theories, methods and operations in research and engineering, test and evaluation and logistics functions; 2) Identifying and solving a wide variety of complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints; 3) Delivering optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints; 4) Providing technical guidance to a technical workforce and meeting customer requirements for products and/or services; 5) Managing a small to medium scale/scope or segments of a project/program.

Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

For 1310 Series: A) Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics or B) Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

For 1550 Series: Bachelor's degree in computer science OR Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
