Job Description

Professional Practice Professor, Non-tenure track (Associate/Full Professor) & Interim Chair of the Conservatory Division of Theatre. Full time, 12-month, benefit eligible.

The Division of Theatre is at a pivotal point in its history. Beginning in the 1960s, it has been known as a premiere training program for excellence in theatre in the Heartland. Recent changes at UMKC, including the Division’s move from the College of Arts and Sciences into the Conservatory of Music and Dance, and shifts in its partnership with the UMKC theatre-in-residence KC Rep, have opened opportunities for it to evolve its practices to strategically maintain its historical momentum.

To leverage these opportunities, the selected candidate will collaborate with the Dean of the Conservatory and the faculty to engage in strategic planning, while continuing ongoing curricular developments. The selected candidate will also serve as the liaison between the theatre faculty and Conservatory administration; manage personnel and financial matters; oversee all theatre curriculum, lead student recruitment and retention efforts; advocate for division faculty members and their programs; coordinate division meetings, performances, masterclasses, and guest artists; guide and support the production season and act as artistic liaison with producing partners; contribute to the performance, academic, and service environments characteristic of a Conservatory within a university; enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City region; other duties as assigned, based on the candidate’s strengths and the needs of the institution.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful and innovative experience as a theatre instructor in a university setting; successful leadership experience in a university setting; significant professional experience and reputation at the national/international level in a theatre discipline; demonstrated ability to attract quality undergraduate and graduate students; strong commitment to teaching and mentorship; terminal degree in theatre, or equivalent professional experience; significant academic credentials.

Anticipated Hiring Range

SALARY: Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity

APPOINTMENT TYPE: This is a full time, ranked, non-tenure track, benefit eligible, twelve-month appointment.
