Investigations Editor

McClatchy Miami, FL

The Miami Herald seeks an experienced investigations editor to lead our legendary I-Team.

We are committed to ambitious, high-impact journalism and our investigative legacy dates back decades. Our work exposed mob influence in 1950s Miami, changed laws on how Florida treats its most vulnerable residents, revealed the sweetheart deal that enabled serial sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and exposed the flaws that brought down a Surfside condo building and killed 98 people. The Herald has won 24 Pulitzer Prizes and we’re on the hunt for our next.

Applicants should be hungry to lead the kind of work that reveals what others want to hide, holds those in power to account, engages communities and drives change. They should have a track record of generating highly relevant project ideas and delivering bulletproof, seamless reads. Their vision extends beyond the narrative, with ambitious multimedia storytelling and reporting that seeks and responds to the concerns of our community.

We’re looking for a creative collaborator who will lead a team of five experienced investigative reporters and two data reporters, mentor two emerging fellows, and engage with the wider newsroom staff on high-level accountability work. We’re looking for someone who is excited about working in a bilingual newsroom in one of the most diverse and dynamic communities in the United States. Language skills - Spanish, Portuguese, French/Creole - all add value in South Florida.
