Job Structure: 12-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension of full-time conversion

First Year Salary: $65,000+ ($32/hourly+)

Brooksource is seeking a Junior Security Engineer to join our enterprise banking partner's information security department in Charlotte, NC. This position is ideal for recent graduates from universities/boot-camps with a cyber interest, veterans, or individuals with up to one year of professional experience. The role involves a hybrid work schedule with three days per week in the office in uptown Charlotte.

As a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst, you will support the Security Posture Management – Web Application Firewall (WAF) team. The Web Application Firewall team is responsible for supporting existing WAF & API security platforms within our banking partner’s environment. This individual will support this team by configuring and maintaining WAF security policies with the long-term goal of this member growing into a WAF engineer.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review WAF event logs, security configurations and platform implementation to identify gaps for enhancements
• Leverage scripting languages like Terraform, Ansible and/or Python to for automation purposes like reducing repetitive operational tasks
• Provide solutions for cyber threats
• Monitor incident ticket activity to respond to any application impacts in a timely manner
• Participate in group workshops to assess new platforms and solutions
• Assist in implementing new WAF & API security related technologies
• Track work effort with Agile framework, and schedule changes through enterprise change management platform
• Collaborate with developers, and partner engineering teams to onboard and optimize policy configurations

Must Have Skills

• Strong Python scripting experience (ideally in networking/infrastructure environment) Recent graduate of a Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security or related field from a university, community college and/or boot-camp OR military veteran
• Understanding of application & network security knowledge, firewalls, and HTTP protocols
• Understanding or experience with agile methodologies
• Ability and desire to learn new technologies quickly and independently

Nice to Have Skills

• Internship or six months to a year of professional experience in a network/infrastructure space
• Terraform or Ansible scripting experience
• WAF experience

Environment

• Regular working hours: 8-5 Monday-Friday

• Location: Uptown Charlotte, NC – Hybrid schedule with 3 days in office and 2 days remote per week
