Junior Systems Engineer

Onsite position in Birmingham or Tuscaloosa. Open to all Green Card and US Citizens.

Our client is looking for a reliable and driven professional who will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of a Windows servers. You will support the implementation, configuration, and management of VDI environments, work with senior engineers to escalate and resolve more complex issues, and regularly monitor the health and performance of the virtual environments using monitoring tools.

What you'll do:

• Monitor and maintain VDI infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking components.
• Maintain patching and reboot schedules leveraging RMM
• Assist in backups and restores, as well as ensuring that backups for both the VDI and VSI environments are tested and confirmed.
• Directly work with the Help Desk to provide Tier 1/Tier 2 support for VDI-related issues, responding to and resolving end-user problems in a timely manner.
• Ensure security policies and protocols are adhered to in the virtual desktop and server environments.
• Regularly audit Active Directory for expired and disabled users and ensuring groups and memberships have been removed.
• Generate reports on system performance, user activity, and other metrics as required utilizing the RMM and other related tools.
• Maintain and update documentation related to the VDI and VSI environments, including setup guides, troubleshooting procedures, and system configurations.
• Assist in creating user manuals and other instructional materials for end-users.
• Work closely with IT teams, including network engineers, security teams, and help desk staff, to ensure seamless operation of the virtual environments.

Skills needed for success:

• Basic understanding of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Citrix, Microsoft).
• Basic experience with Office 365 Administration tools and hybrid Exchange
• Familiarity with Windows Server 2019/2022 and Active Directory.
• Familiarity with Windows 10/11 Desktops
• Knowledge of networking concepts, including DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.

Troubleshooting:

• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
• Experience with monitoring tools and remote desktop protocols.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness to learn from senior engineers and contribute to team projects.

Education and Experience:

• AS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education or technical training and experience.
• 1-3 years of related systems administration engineering experience.
• Relevant certifications are a plus!
• Experience with VDI solutions or virtualization technologies is a plus!
