A quick summary about the Lead Audio Engineer – A1 role:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of AV Services, the KIA Center Lead Audio Engineer -A1 is responsible for managing, maintaining and operating the entire in-arena sound system for all events required and responsible for providing audio post-production services for in-arena and social media Live Entertainment and Production department content provided. You will be responsible for hiring, training and managing the Game Day A1 and A2 positions and works with the Special Events and Live Entertainment department on sourcing external AV support, band backline and coordinating various services with the Assistant Director of AV Services.

What The Lead Audio Engineer – A1 Will Do

  • Work closely with Assistant Director of AV Services to establish all audio acquisition and playback procedures, protocols and workflows to ensure the highest level of quality and consistency for all installed or portable sound systems operated within the KIA Center.
  • Assist in establishing all event audio set up/strike procedures.
  • Setup and strike all sizes of event setups including audio, lighting, video, telecom and courtside equipment
  • Execute small and large corporate conference AV setups throughout the venue
  • Provide technical support to Magic staff and clients on event and non-event days.
  • Responsible for managing and facilitating all bowl and facility audio setups, sound checks, quality control protocols and system operations.
  • Responsible for hiring, managing and training all Audio 1 and Audio 2 part time staff for events.
  • Work with the Live Entertainment and Production Departments to establish workflow protocols for all pre-produced audio content needs for In-Arena Media and Social Media projects including but not limited to audio recording, processing and sweetening, mixing, and editing to achieve optimum sound quality for arena games, events and social media platforms
  • Utilize audio software and hardware as needed to produce professional quality audio for all live events and pre-produced media segments
  • Match technical equipment needs with required audio applications for a given game, event, or program.
  • Perform audio quality check of all Media-related projects and recording engineering of major projects.
  • Review equipment technical status regularly, so as to recommend and implement policy, procedure and development plans.
  • Assist Assistant Director of AV Services with project planning, coordination, daily maintenance and technical labor.
  • Work with the Technical Services Engineer to maintain all hospitality AV spaces and advise on upkeep and technical issues.
  • Work with the Senior Video Operations Technical Engineer to maintain equipment and signal flow between the Video Control Room, Audio Production Booth and KIA Center audio system.
  • Coordinate all AV needs with Special Events staff to ensure consistent quality for all Magic and related business events and multiple facilities.
  • Advance content needs and provide event day producer services as needed for premium Special Events.
  • Advance and coordinate all AV needs with the Live Entertainment department, including any game day performances, musical acts, and presentations. Work with the Live Entertainment staff to ensure quality services for both the preforming artists and presenters.
  • Work with Radio Broadcast staff to advise and maintain audio production system for both home and away games. Advise and deploy and necessary technical upgrades as needed.
  • Work with all Magic businesses, including Solar Bears, Osceola Magic, and Magic Gaming, as needed to improve audio aspects of the production and in-arena content.
  • Work with Orlando Venues clients in coordination with the Assistant Director of AV Services to ensure consistent and Legendary audio experiences for both event guests and the clients.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What The Lead Audio Engineer – A1 Needs To Have

  • College degree preferred or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of front of house experience required.
  • Strong familiarity with analog and digital audio consoles and outboard audio processing equipment required.
  • 2 years of studio audio production experience required.
  • Pro Tools or other similar professional DAW software experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital audio standards and general equipment maintenance practices strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Arena/Large Venue experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work all Magic home games (43-45/year) plus a select number of non-Magic events (15-30). This includes the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products and other related computer skills required.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and support multiple high level executive positions.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to take direction without follow up.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over.
  • Strong teamwork and team synergy skills required.
  • Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Availability and willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary.
