About The Department

Founded in 2015, The University of Chicago Inclusive Economy Lab conducts rigorous research that expands economic opportunity for people harmed by discrimination, disinvestment, and segregation. One of five Urban Labs based at the Harris School of Public Policy, the Inclusive Economy Lab is led by Pritzker Director Marianne Bertrand, Chris P. Dialynas Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the Booth School of Business.

Job Summary

The job provides professional support and solves problems in collecting, organizing, and analyzing information from the University's various internal data systems as well as from external sources The job performs data analysis assignments related to data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling in order to support projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leads data collection, data management, and analysis for qualitative and mixed-methods evaluations.
  • Uses software (i.e. Dedoose, NVivo) to clean transcripts and code data.
  • Drafts memos and presentations targeting both policymakers and academic researchers.
  • Ensures the faithful implementation of University of Chicago IRB procedures, including maintaining confidentiality of participant information and ensuring compliance with institutional, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
  • Reviews other analysts’ coding as a part of the Lab’s quality assurance efforts.
  • Prepares project memos, summaries, and presentations as needed to engage research partners in all stages of the research cycle.
  • Begin contributing to new project scoping and research design.
  • Begins to represent the organization to external partners.
  • Helps build the culture of the organization by helping lead enterprise-wide committees and serving as a mentor to junior staff.
  • Conducts or delegates literature reviews and best practice policy scans to help inform the development of the research agenda.
  • Analyzes moderately complex data sets for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information.
  • Provides professional support to staff or faculty members in defining the project and applying principals of data science in manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.



  • Work Experience:

    Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.



  • Certifications:

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education:

    • Coursework in qualitative research methods.
    • Master’s degree.

    Experience:

    • Demonstrated experience working with communities that have experienced segregation and disinvestment strongly preferred.
    • First generation college students and those with lived experience in communities experiencing poverty and disinvestment are encouraged to apply.
    • Previous experience working in a research organization or managing research projects strongly preferred.
    • Experience with NVivo, AtlasTi, MaxQDA, or Dedoose strongly preferred.

    • Ability to work discreetly with sensitive and confidential data.
