Position Summary

We are in search of an AMS, AMI, or MACTE certified Lead Guide for the Upper Elementary level to join our dynamic staff. Candidates should be committed to fostering a quality Montessori environment, collaborating with experienced colleagues, and providing support to parents. The ideal candidate will possess maturity, dedication, high integrity, good judgment, and the willingness to grow as a teacher leader, with a profound understanding of Montessori principles and classroom management. This is a full-time position with typical hours from Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, including some weekend and evening activities.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities

  • Promote the vision, mission, and goals of Shining Stars Montessori Academy to students, parents, and the community.
  • Develop and implement an authentic Montessori Upper Elementary curriculum and assessment aligned with Montessori Learning Standards and D.C. Common Core State Standards.
  • Collaborate with a Co-Guide to present Montessori lessons and plan student expeditions.
  • Attend and participate in Montessori Model UN and plan curriculum for the 6th-grade end-of-year study trip.
  • Conduct ongoing student assessments and tailor instructional methods to meet individual needs.
  • Lead individual and small group instruction as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain the integrity and scope of the Montessori Method with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Prepare the Montessori classroom environment and materials according to students’ needs.
  • Present group lessons while supporting individual socio-emotional and academic progress.
  • Log daily observations of student understanding and progress.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and school community events.
  • Administer standardized tests as per requirements.
  • Instruct students in principles of Grace and Courtesy.
  • Build and sustain positive relationships with parents and families.
  • Attend staff meetings and ensure the safety of shared areas such as bathrooms and playgrounds.

Required Competencies & Qualifications

  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a commitment to respectful, dignified service for all families.
  • Possess the ability to adapt to varying learning styles.
  • Excellent listening, communication, and writing skills.
  • A love for children and a sense of humor are essential.

Education And Experience

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • AMS or AMI certification in Elementary Education from a recognized program is required.
  • Previous Montessori classroom experience is preferred, especially in a diverse community.
  • Praxis II certification and passing scores are preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or French is a plus.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is necessary.
