Job Summary
Lead VFX Artist needed for full time hybrid role in Southern California with Randstad Digital's client.
Our client is in need of an experienced Lead VFX Artist with a passion for RPGs and a strong background in game engines, particularly Unreal. The chosen individual will be responsible for enhancing the visual quality of their upcoming AAA RPG project. They will manage the VFX pipeline, guaranteeing the quality of all visual effects. Working closely with the art director and other team members, the Lead VFX Artist will lead a team in creating engaging effects that enhance gameplay and narrative. This role offers an exciting chance to contribute to innovative gaming experiences.

Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years AAA experience as a senior VFX artist in the video game industry, with at least 2 years as a Lead VFX artist on a AAA game.
- A strong portfolio showcasing expertise in creating high-quality visual effects for video games, showcasing a variety of effects.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
- Mastery of VFX fundamentals, including particles, textures, lighting, materials, technical aspects, and game limitations - specifically within Unreal engine.
- Expert-level proficiency with Houdini, Photoshop, Maya, and/or other 3D software packages.
- Able to demonstrate strong technical knowledge of next-generation effects within Unreal engine with an aptitude for learning new systems quickly.
- Must have the drive to conquer technical challenges with strong problem-solving skills. -
- Ability to conceptualize, present, and execute ideas quickly.
- Working knowledge of Unreal engine 5.
- Experience working with and managing external partners.
- Proficient with JIRA.
- Familiarity with RPG games.

Responsibilities
- Design, create, and integrate visually stunning particle and material effects that match our game through the creative use of particles, geometry, and animation while using Unreal 5 and industry-standard tools and techniques.
- Collaborate with other departments, including art, design, and engineering, to ensure that visual effects enhance gameplay, narrative, and overall player experience.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of VFX artists, offering guidance, feedback, and support to foster their professional growth.
- Work closely with Production to manage scheduling and scoping, ensuring realistic timelines for project milestones and goals.
- Maintain an efficient and effective VFX pipeline from concept to implementation, meeting deadlines and upholding quality standards.
- Optimize visual effects for performance on various platforms and hardware configurations without compromising visual fidelity.
- Document workflows, techniques, and best practices for the VFX team, ensuring that knowledge is shared and retained.
- Stay current with the latest trends, techniques, and technologies in video game VFX and apply them to improve the visual quality of our games.
