The University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus seeks individuals with demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and working environment. We value the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.

This position will serve as instructor of record for the three-credit hour, data science course, IWKS 3200 / 5200: Data Science for Innovators. Teaching and curriculum development experience is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Follow the curriculum outline; there is latitude in class activities and assignments
  • Utilize tools and software currently relevant in related professions
  • Foster an environment that is inclusive to students from diverse backgrounds
  • The instructor has latitude in the organization and structure of the course with the following guidelines:
    • Course should utilize open-source tools rather than proprietary software packages
    • Examples can come from a range of fields or disciplines, but should include data sets relevant to the Smart Cities certificate
Faculty Skills required:

  • Relevant skills in data analytics
  • Ability to convey relevant skill sets to a wide range of disciplines and skill levels
  • Ability to use CU Denver digital tools, such as Canvas (learning management system), Zoom, and OneDrive
  • Willingness to follow campus pandemic protocols whenever on campus

Course Description:

Introduces techniques for capturing, processing, visualizing, and making meaning out of large datasets. With the exponential growth and decreasing cost of data collection tools such as genome sequencing, social media, crowd sourced data, mobile phone apps, remote sensors, and data from other publicly available sources, innovators are able to harness a rich array of data in their designs. This course will introduce the fundamentals of working with online data and large data sets, introduce widely used data analysis and visualization tools, and culminate in a cumulative project that incorporates data in a significant way.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary for a three credit course is $5,200-$5,500.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
